Reddit Ads for B2B SaaS: How to Measure Pipeline, Not Clicks

B2B buyers research on Reddit long before they talk to sales, which makes it a good channel and a hard one to measure. How to target a business buyer, why Reddit's reporting undercounts a SaaS deal, which numbers replace cost per lead, the account structure that makes pipeline per community readable, and what to send back to Reddit.

Ask a B2B SaaS team how Reddit Ads are doing and you usually get one of two answers. Either the cost per lead looks fine and nobody in sales has heard of the leads, or the leads look thin and the pipeline review keeps mentioning deals whose buyers said they "saw you on Reddit". Both answers come from the same place: Reddit is where business buyers research, and research does not convert on the click.

That makes Reddit a channel you cannot judge from inside Ads Manager, and one you can judge perfectly well from your CRM, if the account is built so its results can be read there. This guide covers why Reddit fits research-heavy buying, how to target a business buyer, why Reddit's numbers undercount a SaaS deal, which metrics replace cost per lead, the account structure that makes pipeline per community readable, and what to send back to Reddit so it looks for buyers rather than form fillers.

Quick Summary: Reddit Ads for B2B SaaS

In short

Reddit suits B2B SaaS because buyers research there before they talk to sales, and it lets you target them by the communities they read, the keywords in the threads, IAB interests and, through Bombora, firmographic and intent audiences. The catch is measurement: Reddit credits conversions within at most 28 days of a click and optimises on a 7-day window, while a B2B deal closes months later, often after a branded search or an AI answer took the last click. So judge Reddit on pipeline and customer acquisition cost from your CRM, not on cost per lead. Build one ad group per community cluster, because the click reaches your site with no community attached, send a qualified stage back as the event Reddit optimises for, and follow each Reddit click to the closed deal in an attribution tool with no window.

The form on your site, the Lead and SignUp events and the click ID through the form have a guide of their own, Reddit lead generation ads after onsite forms. This one is about everything around it.

Why Reddit Fits Research-Heavy B2B Buying

The best recent evidence is a study Reddit commissioned from SurveyMonkey, "The hidden B2B journey", published in March 2026: 1,202 US business decision-makers surveyed around the turn of the year, with a margin of error of plus or minus three points. It is Reddit's own study, so read it as the case Reddit makes, but the numbers describe a buying process most SaaS teams will recognise.

  • Buyers research alone first83% of the decision-makers surveyed research on their own before they speak to sales, and 55% say they struggle to know which sources to trust.
  • Peers beat vendor pages73% trust peer insights above vendor websites. That is the gap a community thread fills and your own site cannot.
  • Reddit is part of that research23% of decision-makers and 32% of software buyers say they have used Reddit for research. Of those, 77% look at reviews and testimonials, 45% for pricing, 42% for capabilities and 36% for compatibility or integrations.
  • The research takes time65% research for a week or less, and 31% for several weeks or more. Keep that second number in mind for the measurement section.

The one reach figure worth quoting comes from Bombora's December 2025 release announcing its audiences on Reddit: citing Comscore, it says Reddit reaches 61% of US business decision-makers (June 2025). The figure of 124 million decision-makers that circulates in agency blogs could not be traced to any Reddit page, so it does not appear here.

Two practical consequences follow before any targeting decision. The landing page has to answer what Reddit researchers came for, which the study names: pricing, capabilities and integrations, next to proof from customers. And the ad is not the only exposure. A thread about your category keeps working after the campaign ends, and the buyer who read it arrives later by another route, which is the whole measurement problem in one sentence.

Targeting a B2B Buyer on Reddit

Reddit's targeting list has no job title option of the kind LinkedIn sells. What it has is context: where people spend time and what they read. For a SaaS product that is often the sharper signal, because somebody reading r/sysadmin this week is likely to have a live problem, whatever their title says.

  • Community targeting

Subreddits people subscribed to, viewed or visited in the last 28 days. The backbone of a B2B account: the communities where your buyers ask how to do the job your product does.

  • Keyword targeting

Content containing keywords you define, English terms only. Good for problem language and competitor names that cut across communities.

  • Interest targeting

IAB-based topic categories such as Business & Finance, built from the communities people subscribe to or visit. Broad, and best as a prospecting control.

  • Bombora audiences

Bombora's firmographic, intent (Company Surge) and account-based audiences, available on Reddit since December 2025. Reddit's API lists Bombora as a third-party data provider with its own data cost.

  • Custom audiences

Website retargeting from the Pixel and the Conversions API (at least 50 users, a lookback of 1 to 90 days), customer lists, lookalikes and engagement retargeting over the last six months.

  • Placements

The feed, or the conversation: comment pages, between the post and the first comment. The second one sits inside the research itself.

One setting deserves a decision rather than a default. Reddit strongly recommends automated targeting, which reaches relevant audiences beyond the ones you selected, and with it switched on a custom audience combines with the rest of your targeting as an OR rather than a filter. That can help delivery. It also means an ad group aimed at three DevOps communities may serve well outside them, so if the point of the ad group is to learn what those communities are worth, test with it off before you conclude anything about them.

Lookalikes need a seed: a website retargeting audience of at least 10,000 users or a customer list of at least 1,000 matched users. A seed of closed-won customers says more than a seed of everyone who filled in a form, but many SaaS teams will reach 1,000 matched customers late, so start with communities and keywords and add lookalikes when the list is big enough.

Why Reddit's Numbers Undercount a B2B Deal

None of this is Reddit being secretive. Its reporting is clear about what it counts. The problem is that a B2B deal happens mostly outside what it counts, for four reasons that stack.

  • The cycle is longer than the windowReddit's reporting credits conversions up to 28 days after a click (and 1 day after a view by default), and 28 days is the longest click window it offers. A deal closing on day 90 is not credited in Reddit's reporting, however it is sent.
  • The bidding sees even lessOptimisation uses its own window on the ad group, 7-day click or 7-day click plus 1-day view, fixed once you publish. Whatever happens after day seven never reaches the bidding.
  • The research leaves no clickReddit's iOS and Android apps pass no referrer, and a buyer who reads a thread and comes back a week later by typing your name, searching it or asking ChatGPT arrives as Direct, branded search or AI search. Reddit threads are cited by Google and by AI engines, so that return trip is common.
  • Several people buyAn engineer reads the thread and clicks the ad, the team lead books the demo, finance signs. The CRM joins them on one deal; Reddit only ever met the engineer.

Put the SurveyMonkey number next to the window: 31% of decision-makers research for several weeks or more, and that is before a sales cycle starts. Reddit publishes nothing specific to B2B on attribution windows; the constraint is simply the 28-day maximum. So Reddit's dashboard will show you a fraction of what the channel produced, and the fraction will be the part that happened fastest, which in B2B is rarely the biggest deal.

Last click makes it worse

If your CRM or analytics credits the last click, the deal that started with a Reddit ad and ended with a branded Google search belongs to Google. Across a quarter that turns Reddit into a channel that "only produces leads" and branded search into the channel that closes. Read Reddit on first touch and multi-touch as well, never on last click alone. Reddit Ads attribution goes through the windows and the disagreements in detail.

Pipeline and CAC, Not Cost per Lead

Cost per lead is the number Reddit can show you and the one that says least. The cheapest form fills in a B2B account can come from students, job seekers and competitors who read the same communities as your buyers. The ladder below is what to report instead, top to bottom, with the lower rungs deciding the budget.

The B2B metrics ladder for Reddit, and where each number lives

Reddit spend÷New customers from Reddit=Reddit CAC

An illustration, not a benchmark: €12,000 of Reddit spend over a quarter and 4 new customers whose journey started with a Reddit click is a Reddit CAC of €3,000, which you then compare with the same number for LinkedIn and search.

The attribution model decides the denominator, so state it next to the number. First click answers "which channel opens deals", which is Reddit's usual job. Multi-touch answers "which channels share the credit". A CAC computed on last click will make Reddit look expensive for the reasons in the previous section. The customer acquisition cost entry has the definition, B2B marketing attribution the models, and are Reddit Ads worth it the ROI and ROAS on closed revenue.

The Account Structure That Makes Results Readable

Reddit can break its own conversions down by community: the dashboard splits results by community, keyword or interest as a report export, and the Reporting API has a COMMUNITY breakdown. What it cannot tell your CRM is the same thing about a deal in month four, because that deal is outside its window. And the click that reaches your site carries no community at all. The rdt_cid is an opaque click ID, and none of the macros Reddit documents names a community.

So the ad group has to carry the meaning. One ad group per community cluster is the structure that lets you read pipeline per community in your CRM: tag each ad group's destination with its cluster, the tag travels with the click in the UTM parameters, and the cluster is known by construction. Community targeting is also defined by people (those who subscribed to, viewed or visited a community in the last 28 days), and the feed placement includes the Home and Popular feeds, which is another reason to let the ad group, not a breakdown, define what "the DevOps communities" means.

An example structure for a SaaS account on Reddit

  • Name ad groups for the cluster, not the date or the creative. The name is what ends up in the CRM report, so "c-devops-practitioners" beats "AG 3 Sept".
  • Tag the destination URL per ad group with static UTMs. Reddit documents macros for trackers, for catalog ads and for the API's click_url_query_parameters, but not for a standard ad's URL in Ads Manager, so a static utm_content per cluster is the dependable route. Reddit Ads UTM parameters has the detail.
  • Keep clusters apart that you intend to compare, and consolidate the ones you do not. Reddit's learning phase needs around 20 optimisation events per ad group, and Reddit itself advises consolidating similar ad groups, so a cluster that will never reach 20 of your goal events belongs merged with its neighbour.
  • Plan for the December 2026 reporting change. From 8 December 2026 a Reporting API request can carry only one of the community, keyword, interest and language breakdowns, so build community reports as their own export rather than crossed with keywords.

What to Send Back to Reddit

Everything Reddit optimises for is one of its standard events: Purchase, Lead, SignUp, Add to Cart, Page Visit, or clicks when nothing is set up. Custom events can be sent and reported, but they cannot be a goal. Reddit has no guide for mapping CRM stages onto those events, so the ladder below is our recommendation, built only from events Reddit documents.

A B2B SaaS event ladder for Reddit

Three rules keep the ladder honest. Send every event within seven days of the stage change, because Reddit only accepts Conversions API events sent within seven days of when they happened, which is why a nightly job beats a monthly upload. Make "qualified" mean something your sales team would defend, because Reddit will look for more of whatever you call a Lead. And never expect Reddit to credit the deal that closes in month four: send the won deals that land inside the window with their value, and read the rest in your attribution reporting.

Self-serve SaaS has an easier time here. A trial that starts on the day of the click and converts to a first payment inside 28 days lands in Reddit's reporting as a Purchase with its value, which a sales-led deal rarely does. Only a payment within seven days of the click reaches the bidding, though, so for optimisation the trial start, sent as SignUp, stays the practical goal. If you run both motions, keep them in separate ad groups with separate goals. The form, the event code and the click ID through the form are in Reddit lead generation ads after onsite forms, and the server side in the Reddit Conversions API guide.

Reddit Lead Gen Ads, HubSpot and the Rest of the CRM

Until this month, "Reddit lead gen ads" meant a form inside Reddit and a Zap into the CRM. Reddit sunset the Lead Generation Forms API on 21 September 2026 and pauses the remaining onsite form ads on 30 September, so lead generation campaigns now send the visitor to a form on your own site. For a SaaS team that is good news: the demo form you already have is the lead form, and it already writes to the CRM.

For HubSpot users there is also a real integration now. HubSpot's Reddit Ads integration is in beta on all products and plans. HubSpot's article says it syncs campaign, ad group and ad settings with their performance metrics, offers auto tracking that applies HubSpot tracking to your Reddit ads, and shows which contacts and deals are attributed to your Reddit campaigns, through to closed deals. That is a genuine answer to "which Reddit campaigns produced deals" inside HubSpot's own attribution. The article does not describe sending deal stages or conversions back to Reddit, so Reddit's bidding still learns only from what your Pixel and Conversions API send it.

Whatever the CRM, the record needs the same four things: the rdt_cid from the landing URL, the UTM parameters including the cluster in utm_content, the landing page, and the first touch, frozen when the contact is created. Salesforce, Pipedrive, Attio and the rest take them as custom fields through hidden form fields. The weak spot is the buyer who converts on a later visit, when the URL no longer carries any of it, which is where first-party storage of the first visit matters more than any form setting.

Reading Reddit Results in a B2B Account

With the structure and the ladder in place, the monthly read is four views, in this order. None of them needs an opinion about what Reddit "really" did.

  1. Pipeline and CAC per cluster on first touch. Which communities open deals, and at what cost per opportunity. This is the budget decision.
  2. The same on multi-touch. A cluster that looks weak on first touch and strong on multi-touch is doing its work mid-journey, usually through retargeting or a second thread.
  3. The return route. For deals with a Reddit touch, what took the last click: branded search, an AI search engine, Direct. A large share there is the research effect made visible, and the reason last click alone would have cut the channel.
  4. Time from Reddit click to opportunity. If most opportunities open after day 28, Reddit's dashboard will always understate the channel for you, and the attribution tool is the only place it can be judged.

Reddit's own dashboard stays useful for what it is good at: delivery, creative, cost per SignUp and Lead, and its view-through column, which it reports separately from click-through. Reddit's measurement page also lists conversion lift studies for proving incrementality; we found no help center article on who is eligible, so ask your Reddit contact. Keep the two sets of numbers side by side and never add them together.

Six B2B Mistakes on Reddit

  • Judging on cost per lead

It rewards whichever communities fill forms cheapest, which are not always the ones that buy. Judge on cost per qualified lead at the least, and on pipeline for the budget.

  • Reading the 7-day number as the result

The optimisation window is for the bidding. The dashboard should stay on the 28-day click window, and even that is a floor for B2B.

  • Mixing clusters in one ad group

Three unrelated communities in one ad group produce one blended result in the CRM, because the click brings no community with it.

  • Optimising on every form fill forever

Fine while an ad group learns. Once the CRM qualifies leads within a week, a qualified Lead is the better goal.

  • Gating everything

Reddit's review guidelines say not to demand personal details unless the form gives access to more information. A form that unlocks a report qualifies; a form in front of the page the ad promised does not.

  • Cutting Reddit on last click

The research comes back as branded search, AI search and Direct. Check the return route before you move the budget.

How LeadJourney Follows a Reddit Click to the Deal

Everything above depends on one join: the Reddit click on the way in and the CRM deal months later. LeadJourney makes that join, and the Reddit Ads integration is the newest ad platform on it, next to Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads and Microsoft Ads.

One script on your site or in your GTM container, live in about 21 minutes without a developer, tracks server-side and first-party at 95%+ accuracy. On the first visit it issues the LeadJourney Click ID, our own visitor identifier, kept in the browser for months, and stores every session under it, with the platforms' click IDs as properties of the session, now including Reddit's rdt_cid, captured server-side on every Reddit click. When the engineer who clicked the ad books a demo three weeks later from a branded search in the same browser, the booking joins the history that started on Reddit. AI search engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Grok, DeepSeek) are reported as sources of their own, which is how the return route in the previous sections becomes a column rather than a guess.

LeadJourney connects the Reddit Ads account and imports campaigns, ad groups, ads and daily spend, so Reddit's cost sits next to the leads, opportunities and revenue its campaigns produced. It follows the lead through HubSpot, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive, Attio, Close, GoHighLevel, ActiveCampaign or Odoo natively, and Stripe for self-serve revenue. The CRM stages you map, for example a qualified lead as a Lead event and a won deal or a paid order as a Purchase with its value, go back through Reddit's Conversions API with the click ID, hashed email and phone, and a conversion ID that deduplicates against a running Reddit Pixel.

On LeadJourney's side there is no attribution window: the journey runs from the first click to closed won however long it takes, under first click, last click, linear, position based, time decay and other models, switched without re-tracking. LeadJourney does not do view-through attribution or incrementality testing; those stay with Reddit. Data is processed in Frankfurt under a DPA, and every plan starts with a 14-day free trial without a credit card. The SaaS companies page covers LeadJourney for subscription businesses.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What B2B SaaS teams ask before they put budget into Reddit Ads.

Do Reddit Ads work for B2B SaaS?

They can, because business buyers research on Reddit: in Reddit's study with SurveyMonkey, 32% of software buyers said they had used Reddit for research, and those who did looked above all for reviews and testimonials, then pricing, capabilities and integrations. Whether they work for you is a measurement question. Judged on last click or inside Reddit's 28-day window they will look weak; judged on pipeline and CAC from the CRM, with first touch and multi-touch, you get an answer you can defend.

How do I target B2B buyers on Reddit?

Start with community targeting on the subreddits where the job your product does is discussed, add keyword targeting for problem language and competitor names, and use interest targeting as a broad control. Bombora's firmographic, intent and account-based audiences are available on Reddit for account-based work. Add website retargeting and, once you have 1,000 matched customers, a lookalike of closed-won accounts.

What attribution window should a B2B account use on Reddit?

Keep the reporting setting at a 28-day click window, the longest Reddit offers, and remember that the optimisation window is separate: 7-day click, or 7-day click plus 1-day view, set on the ad group and fixed after publishing. No setting gets Reddit to credit a deal closed three months after the click, so read that part of the channel in an attribution tool without a window.

Can Reddit optimise for SQLs or opportunities?

Not as custom events: Reddit's conversion goals are Purchase, Lead, SignUp, Add to Cart, Page Visit and clicks, and custom events cannot be goals. What works is sending your qualified stage as a Lead event from the CRM through the Conversions API, within seven days of the stage change, and sending the form fill as SignUp. An opportunity can go as a custom event for reporting.

Does HubSpot have a Reddit Ads integration?

Yes, in beta on all products and plans. HubSpot's article says it syncs Reddit campaign, ad group and ad settings and performance metrics, applies HubSpot tracking to your Reddit ads, and shows which contacts and deals are attributed to your Reddit campaigns. It does not describe sending deal stages back to Reddit, so Reddit's bidding still learns only from your Pixel and Conversions API events.

Why do Reddit leads show up as Direct in my CRM?

Reddit's iOS and Android apps pass no referrer, so a click without UTM parameters arrives with nothing that names Reddit. And many Reddit-influenced buyers never click: they read a thread and come back later by typing your URL, searching your name or asking an AI engine. Tag every ad with UTMs, keep the rdt_cid, and store the first visit in first-party storage so a later conversion keeps its origin.

How many B2B decision-makers use Reddit?

The figures with a traceable source are these: Bombora's December 2025 release, citing Comscore, says Reddit reaches 61% of US business decision-makers, and Reddit's SurveyMonkey study found 23% of decision-makers and 32% of software buyers had used Reddit for research. The widely repeated 124 million decision-makers could not be found on any Reddit page, so we do not use it.
