The gap

Native clicks are cheap. Knowing which ones paid is not.

Realize reports every conversion inside its window, whatever else the buyer clicked. Your CRM records who actually bought. The two numbers were never meant to match.

Taboola Ads attribution on its own

Honest about Taboola, blind to what happens next

  • Realize reports every conversion that occurs inside the attribution window regardless of other touchpoints, so the same sale is also claimed by Google and Meta.
  • The click-through window is 30 days and view-through adds conversions from the last 24 hours after an impression, without a click.
  • Conversions are reported on the click date, not the day they happened, so last week's numbers keep moving after you have read them.
  • The Taboola Pixel fires in the browser, so ad blockers, Safari and declined cookie banners remove conversions before Taboola sees them.
  • The default tracking code tags the traffic utm_medium=referral, so an analytics tool files paid native clicks next to unpaid referrals.
  • Bidding optimises on the conversions you count, so budget drifts to the publisher sites that send the cheapest sign ups, not the buyers.
  • Spend never meets revenue, so cost per closed deal per campaign and per site is a spreadsheet someone builds before the budget review.

Taboola with LeadJourney

One journey per buyer, from the native click to the closed deal

  • Every Taboola click is captured server-side with its tblci, on your own domain, past ad blockers and declined banners, at 95%+ accuracy.
  • The click is kept on the visitor's LeadJourney Click ID, so when they return through brand search weeks later, Taboola is still in the journey.
  • Macros like {site_id} and {campaign_item_id} in your tracking code are stored with the click, so revenue reads per publisher site and per item.
  • The lead is followed through your CRM, stage by stage, to closed won, or through Shopify and Stripe to the paid order.
  • Qualified leads, won deals and orders go back to Taboola by S2S postback within about 15 minutes, with revenue and currency, so bidding learns from buyers.
  • Taboola is measured next to Google, Meta, Outbrain, organic and AI search in one multi-touch model, so each sale is counted once.
  • Spend syncs every two hours, so ROAS and cost per closed deal stay current per campaign and item.

How it works

Taboola conversion tracking in, closed deals back out

All three run on their own once connected. The first records every native click, the second teaches bidding which clicks become revenue, the third explains why Realize and your CRM report different numbers.

  1. 1

Server-side Taboola tracking for every click

The journey starts recording before the Taboola Pixel would even fire.

    Taboola

LeadJourney imports the last 180 days of campaigns, items and spend, syncs spend every two hours, and captures every click with the tblci Taboola appends.

    Your website

On your site, sessions, page views, form fills and checkouts are tracked server-side on your own domain, past ad blockers, Safari and declined banners.

The click is kept on the visitor's LeadJourney Click ID and joined to the lead at the form or the order, however many visits later that is.

Revenue, ROAS and cost per closed deal, live per campaign and item, next to every other channel.

  2. 2

Send qualified leads, won deals and orders over Taboola S2S

So bidding optimises on buyers instead of cheap clicks.

    HubSpotSalesforcePipedriveShopify

Your CRM or shop reports the outcome: stage changes, deal value, closed won, the paid order.

LeadJourney matches the outcome to the Taboola click that started it and attaches an order ID and, when the value is above 0, the revenue in your reporting currency.

    Taboola

Within about 15 minutes it reaches Taboola as its own S2S postback, under the Event Name of the event-based conversion you created in Realize. Where the pixel reports it too, Taboola keeps the S2S event.

Bidding learns which sites and items send buyers, so lead quality rises and the cost per customer falls.

  3. 3

Two counts, each honest about what it measures

Realize reports every conversion in its window. Your CRM records the buyer.

    Taboola

Somebody clicks a native ad under an article, leaves, and converts three weeks later. Inside the 30-day window, Realize reports it, dated on the click.

The same person came back through Google brand search or a Meta retargeting ad, and Google and Meta report the same sale in their own accounts.

LeadJourney measures the whole journey once, so Taboola gets its share of the revenue next to the channels that closed, and no sale is counted three times.

Realize's conversions beside the revenue Taboola clicks actually produced, so the budget review can see both and knows why they differ.

Your CRM closes the loop

The revenue signal comes from the CRM or shop you already run

LeadJourney follows every Taboola lead into your CRM, or every Taboola shopper to the paid order, and reads the outcome back out, so the value ends up on the campaign that earned it.

No tag to fire, nothing for an ad blocker or a declined cookie banner to remove.

Reporting

The questions Realize cannot answer

Every one of these is a report in LeadJourney rather than an export project. Realize stays where you buy, and LeadJourney shows what the buying produced.

  • Which Taboola campaigns produced the revenue we closed last quarter, not just the conversions Realize reported?

  • Which publisher sites send buyers, and which send clicks we should block?

  • What does a customer from Taboola actually cost us, next to Outbrain, Meta and Google?

  • How many deals started with a Taboola click and closed through Google brand search?

  • How many of Realize's conversions did Google or Meta also claim?

  • How long does a Taboola lead take to close, and does a 30-day window cover it?

LeadJourney and Realize

Where Realize ends and LeadJourney starts

Realize reports the conversions the Taboola Pixel and S2S send inside its windows, regardless of other touchpoints. Both stop at Taboola's edge.

Taboola Realize compared with LeadJourney, capability by capability
Where the click is recordedTaboola RealizeIn the browser through the Taboola Pixel, or through an S2S setup you build that stores the tblci and fires a postback. With LeadJourneyServer-side and first-party, on your own domain, so the click and the conversion are recorded even when the pixel is blocked.
What earns the creditTaboola RealizeEvery conversion inside the window regardless of other touchpoints, plus views from the last 24 hours. With LeadJourneyThe click that reached your site, joined to the lead and the deal it became, and shared with the channels that also touched it.
The attribution windowTaboola Realize30 days click-through at most and by default, 24 hours view-through, reported on the click date. With LeadJourneyNo window. The journey runs from the first click to closed won, however long the cycle takes.
What counts as a conversionTaboola RealizeThe conversion rules you create in Realize, fired by the pixel or by an S2S postback under their event name. With LeadJourneyAny CRM stage or paid order you map, with the value attached: qualified lead, closed won, purchase.
RevenueTaboola RealizeThe revenue passed with each conversion, for Taboola clicks only. With LeadJourneyWon CRM revenue and paid orders, attributed per campaign and item, next to every other channel.
Lead quality and lead priceTaboola RealizeBids toward the conversions you include in the total, whatever those leads later do.With LeadJourneyQualified stages go back as conversions, so bidding buys leads that convert and the price per qualified lead falls.
Other channelsTaboola RealizeReports Taboola only, so its conversions overlap with what Google, Meta and Outbrain claim. With LeadJourneyOne model across paid, native, organic, referral and AI search, so every sale is counted once.
Consent and GDPRTaboola RealizeThe pixel runs in the browser, so declined banners and blockers mean missing conversions. With LeadJourneyFirst-party by design and processed in the EU, at 95%+ accuracy, with a DPA.

Keep Realize. Feed it better data.

Realize stays where you plan and buy. LeadJourney fills in the measurement underneath and returns the closed deals and orders Taboola cannot see on its own, so your campaigns are judged on revenue and optimise on it.

FAQ

What Taboola advertisers ask before connecting

If yours is not here, our team answers in the chat within a few minutes.

Does LeadJourney replace the Taboola Pixel?

It can run alongside it or instead of it. Taboola recommends running the pixel and S2S together, and when the same event for the same click arrives both ways, Taboola keeps the S2S one. LeadJourney's tracking is server-side, so it does not depend on the pixel, and its conversions reach Taboola over S2S, so a conversion the pixel also reports is counted once.

How is this different from setting up Taboola S2S postbacks myself?

A postback is a pipe: it moves events you already have. The hard part is having the right events. Taboola asks you to store the tblci on the lead in your CRM, untouched (a truncated value is ignored), and have the CRM call the postback with the case-sensitive event name of a Realize conversion when the lead converts. The bulk endpoint answers 204 whatever it received, so a wrong event name fails quietly. LeadJourney captures the Taboola click server-side, follows the lead through your CRM, and sends each mapped stage as its own postback within about 15 minutes of the change, with its revenue. A postback fired from your thank you page only ever knows what your website knows, which is still just the sign up.

Why does Realize report more conversions than my CRM?

Because Realize counts differently, not wrongly. It reports every conversion inside its window, regardless of other touchpoints, so a buyer who also clicked Google and Meta is a Taboola conversion as well. It adds view-through conversions from the 24 hours after an impression, and it dates each conversion on the click, not the day it happened. Your CRM only knows the people who became leads. LeadJourney shows both: Realize's conversions where you buy, and the revenue Taboola clicks actually produced, measured once across every channel.

Does Taboola tracking still work with ad blockers and declined cookie banners?

Yes, that is the point of tracking server-side. The click, the tblci and the visit are recorded on your own domain before an ad blocker, Safari or a declined banner can remove them, at 95%+ accuracy. Realize keeps reporting what the pixel and your postbacks send; LeadJourney shows you the measured numbers.

Somebody clicked a Taboola ad and bought later through Google. Does Taboola Ads attribution still credit them?

In LeadJourney, yes. The Taboola click is stored on the visitor's LeadJourney Click ID, so when the same person comes back through Google brand search, a ChatGPT answer or a typed URL and converts, Taboola is still part of that journey. Multi-touch models then share the revenue between Taboola and the channel that closed, instead of handing all of it to the search.

Is Realize the same as Taboola Ads?

Realize is the name Taboola gave its platform for performance advertisers in February 2025, and Taboola's help center and conversion docs now say Realize throughout. Campaigns, conversions and the tblci click ID are the same ones you know from Taboola Ads, and everything on this page applies to an account you opened before the change.

Which events can I send back to Taboola?

Any CRM stage or paid order you map: marketing qualified, sales qualified, deal won, a Shopify or Stripe purchase, or all of them. Each one is sent as its own postback under the Event Name of an event-based conversion you created in Realize (the Event Name, not the Conversion Name), with an order ID, and with revenue and currency whenever the value is above 0. Postbacks go out within about 15 minutes of the change, for leads whose journey has a Taboola click, within 30 days of that click. Whether bidding uses it is your setting in Realize: a conversion left out of Total Conversions is reported but not bid on.

Can I see revenue per publisher site?

Yes, if the tracking code passes the site. Taboola's macros fill in {site}, {site_id}, {campaign_item_id}, {title} and more at click time; put them in your UTM parameters and LeadJourney stores them with the click, so closed revenue reads per publisher site and per item. That is the list to block and the list to bid up. Taboola's default tracking code is utm_source=taboola&utm_medium=referral, so change the medium too, or your analytics files paid native traffic as referrals.

Taboola's Shopify app already installs the pixel. What does this add?

Taboola recommends its Shopify app for putting the pixel on your store, and the pixel runs in the browser. LeadJourney reads the paid order from Shopify and sends it to Taboola as an S2S postback with its value, so an order the pixel missed still reaches Taboola, and the same order is attributed next to Meta, Google and email in one model.

Does HubSpot connect to Taboola?

Not natively. HubSpot's ads tool connects Meta, Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft and TikTok ad accounts, and Taboola is not on that list. LeadJourney records the Taboola click itself, follows each lead into HubSpot to the deal next to every other channel, and sends the qualified leads and won deals back over S2S.

A deal closes two months after the click. Is it still attributed?

In LeadJourney, yes: the journey has no window, so the deal is credited to the campaign that started it regardless of the cycle length. Realize attributes a conversion to clicks from the past 30 days at most, and LeadJourney sends postbacks within the same 30 days, so for a long cycle map an early stage that predicts revenue, such as the qualified lead, as the conversion bidding learns from. The report that matches the late revenue to the ad lives in LeadJourney.

Is sending CRM data to Taboola GDPR compliant?

A postback carries the Taboola click ID, the conversion's Event Name, an order ID and, when there is one, the revenue and currency. No email, no phone number, and nothing for a stage you have not mapped. LeadJourney itself processes and stores data in the EU, signs a data processing agreement, and tracks first-party and server-side, so consent decisions are respected rather than worked around.

What do I need to connect Taboola?

Your Taboola API client ID and client secret, which your Taboola account manager provides. Paste them into LeadJourney and pick the ad accounts to sync: one set of credentials can reach several. The last 180 days of campaigns and spend are imported, then spend syncs every two hours. Add the LeadJourney script, connect your CRM and map stages to conversions; once the credentials are in hand most accounts are live in about 21 minutes, and our team will do the setup with you on a call if you prefer.

What does it cost?

The Taboola integration is part of the platform rather than a paid add on. Plans are priced by ad spend instead of seats, so your whole team and your agency can share one workspace, and every plan starts with a 14 day free trial without a credit card.
