The gap

ActiveCampaign knows the deal was won. It does not know which ad started it.

ActiveCampaign reads UTM parameters through Site Tracking and reports first and last touch. It also depends on a browser cookie, never sees what a click cost, and never tells the ad platforms what the deal was worth.

ActiveCampaign attribution on its own

Accurate about the contacts it knows, blind to the click that paid for them

  • Site Tracking runs on a first party cookie set by script, so a declined banner, an ad blocker or Safari's seven day limit on script cookies breaks the link to the first visit.
  • Attribution reports a first and a last touch per conversion, each a UTM value or a referrer, so the touches in between and any model that weighs them are not available.
  • No ad spend enters ActiveCampaign, so ROAS and cost per won deal cannot be calculated inside it.
  • Organic search, referral and AI search sessions arrive as a referrer at best, and AI assistants often send none, so a ChatGPT answer looks like someone typing the URL.
  • Conversions are events you define and wire up yourself, and the report divides them by source rather than joining the won deal value to the campaign that produced it.
  • Facebook Custom Audiences can be kept in step from an automation, but no won deal goes back to Meta, Google or LinkedIn as a conversion with its value attached.
  • Email and automation performance is measured well; what the paid click before the subscription cost, and what the deal it produced was worth, is not.

ActiveCampaign with LeadJourney

One journey per Contact, joined to spend and to won revenue

  • Every touchpoint is captured server-side as it happens, before a Contact exists, at 95%+ accuracy, with no cookie for a banner or a browser to remove.
  • Every session is kept, and first click, last click, linear and position based models are switchable without re-tracking anything.
  • Spend is pulled from your ad accounts automatically, so ROAS and cost per won deal are live per campaign, ad set and creative.
  • Organic, direct, referral and AI search are tracked as first class channels next to paid, with ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini each as their own source.
  • The won deal is read back out of ActiveCampaign with its value, and lands on the campaign and ad that started the Contact.
  • Won deals go back to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads as offline conversions with the deal value attached, per platform.
  • First touch, last touch, campaign and a source tag land on the Contact, so your Automations can branch on where someone came from.

Every touchpoint

The whole journey into ActiveCampaign, and the closed deal back to the ads

Marketing sees every touch before and after ActiveCampaign, sales sees the source on the record it already opens, and when the deal is won the amount goes back to the platform.

See every journey in LeadJourney

The dashboard marketing runs on

  • Every touchpoint of every lead in one timeline, from the first anonymous click to the deal ActiveCampaign marks won.
  • First touch, last touch and every model in between, so a LinkedIn first click and a Google brand-search close are one journey, not two leads.
  • Filter any campaign, ad or landing page to the leads it produced and the deal stage each one reached.
  • The same journey written onto the Contact and the Deal in ActiveCampaign, so your team sees where a lead came from before the first call.

Send it back to the ad platforms

Where the bidding learns from revenue

  • A deal ActiveCampaign marks won becomes a conversion on Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn and Microsoft, matched on the click ID captured at the first visit.
  • The deal value travels with the event, so value based bidding optimises on revenue rather than on form fills.
  • You choose which stages go back: qualified lead, opportunity, won, or all three.
  • Sent server to server, so there is nothing for an ad blocker or a declined cookie banner to remove.

How it works

ActiveCampaign attribution: deals in, attributed revenue back out

Both directions run on their own once connected: one makes attribution to the won deal possible, the other puts the answer on the Contact your Automations already branch on.

  1. 1

Pull your ActiveCampaign pipeline into LeadJourney

Your CRM data meets the marketing data it was always missing.

    ActiveCampaign

LeadJourney reads your Contacts, Accounts and Deals, with pipeline stage, value, currency and the won or lost outcome.

    MetaGoogle AdsLinkedIn AdsYour website

Ad clicks, spend, sessions, forms and click IDs are tracked server-side across paid, organic and AI search.

LeadJourney joins the two into one journey per Contact, from the first anonymous click through every email and automation to the deal ActiveCampaign marked won.

Attributed revenue, ROAS and cost per won deal, per channel, campaign and ad.

  2. 2

Push the attribution back to ActiveCampaign

So nobody has to open a second tool to answer where a deal came from.

LeadJourney writes the finished attribution back onto the ActiveCampaign record, only into the fields you mapped.

    ActiveCampaign

First touch, last touch, campaign, ad and click ID land as custom fields on the Contact, Account and Deal, plus a tag per source channel.

Automations trigger on the tag and branch on the fields like any other, so a Contact from one campaign gets a different sequence, owner or offer.

Sales sees where the deal came from in the record they already work in, and marketing sees which campaigns start the deals that win.

The return path

Won ActiveCampaign deals, back in the ad account that earned them

A form fill is not a result. Once ActiveCampaign marks a deal won, the amount goes back to the platform that produced the click.

  • MetaConversions API

Qualified contact, deal created and deal won, with value and currency

  • Google AdsOffline conversion import

Conversions matched on gclid, with the deal value for value based bidding

  • LinkedIn AdsConversions API

Stage changes and won revenue matched on li_fat_id

  • Microsoft AdsOffline conversions

Conversions matched on msclkid, with the deal value

  • TikTok AdsEvents API

    Server-side lead and revenue events

You choose what counts as a conversion

Map any ActiveCampaign deal stage, tag or field value to any platform event. Qualified, proposal sent, deal won, or all three.

Value based bidding gets a real value

The deal value travels with the event, so tROAS strategies optimise on pipeline instead of a flat lead value.

Sent server to server

No pixel to fire, nothing for an ad blocker or a declined cookie banner to remove.

Reporting

The questions your ActiveCampaign reports cannot answer yet

Every one of these is a report in LeadJourney rather than a data project. ActiveCampaign stays the source of truth for contacts and deals, and LeadJourney supplies the source that produced them.

  • Which campaign produced the deals we won last quarter, not just the subscribers?

  • What did a won deal actually cost us in ad spend?

  • Which channel starts our biggest deals, even when a different one closes them?

  • How much revenue came from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini last month?

  • Which landing page produces the contacts that reach a deal stage?

  • Which campaigns are buying subscribers who never leave the welcome automation?

LeadJourney and ActiveCampaign attribution

Where ActiveCampaign attribution ends and LeadJourney starts

ActiveCampaign attribution is accurate about the contacts and sessions its own cookie can see, and it stops at the cookie.

Before LeadJourney, we had no reliable tracking concept for our five-figure ad spend. We were manually building spreadsheet and CRM reports, inaccurate and time-consuming. Within two days, everything was set up. For the first time, I know exactly what I pay per lead and which campaigns actually bring in the best-qualified prospects.

FAQ

What ActiveCampaign admins ask before connecting

If yours is not here, our team answers in the chat within a few minutes.

How is this different from ActiveCampaign attribution and Site Tracking?

ActiveCampaign attribution reads UTM parameters and referrers through the Site Tracking cookie and reports first and last touch on the conversions you define. LeadJourney records every session server-side and first-party, recognises organic, referral and AI search as channels, joins all of it to spend from your ad accounts, follows the Contact to the won deal, and sends that deal back to the ad platforms. The report in ActiveCampaign keeps working; the numbers around it get complete.

Do I need Site Tracking switched on?

No. LeadJourney's tracking is server-side and runs independently of Site Tracking, so it works whether Site Tracking is on or off. If your Automations use Site Tracking for page visit triggers, keep it: the two do not interfere with each other.

Which ActiveCampaign objects and fields does LeadJourney write to?

Custom fields on Contacts, Accounts and Deals, plus tags. On the Contact: first and last touch channel, source and campaign, the ad and creative, the UTM parameters and click IDs, the landing page and a link to the full journey. On the Deal: the attributed channel and campaign, the credit each touchpoint earned under your active model and the ad spend attributed to it. A tag per source channel lets your Automations trigger on it. You choose which of those are in scope before anything is written.

Can my Automations use the attribution fields?

Yes, that is why they are written as custom fields and tags rather than into a separate report. A tag added to the Contact can start an Automation, and a custom field can be a condition, a segment or a personalisation field like any other, so a Contact from LinkedIn Ads can get a different sequence, owner or offer than one from organic search.

Does it work with multiple pipelines and custom deal fields?

Yes. LeadJourney reads your own pipelines and stage names rather than a fixed list, so a pipeline per product line works as it is. Custom fields on Contacts, Accounts and Deals can be read and written, and you decide which ones.

Can I send won deals back to Meta and Google?

Yes, and it is the point of the integration. Won deals are sent to Meta through the Conversions API, to Google Ads as an offline conversion import matched on gclid, to LinkedIn through the Conversions API and to Microsoft Ads matched on msclkid, with the deal value attached so value based bidding has a real number to optimise against. Any earlier step you map, such as a Qualified tag, can go back as its own event.

A deal closes months after the first email. Is it still attributed?

Yes. The journey in LeadJourney has no attribution window, so the won deal is credited to the campaign and ad that started the Contact however long the nurture ran. The ad platforms apply their own windows to the events they receive, so late deals mainly improve optimisation there; the report that matches revenue to the ad lives in LeadJourney.

How often does the data sync?

Both directions run continuously rather than as a nightly batch: tracked touchpoints reach ActiveCampaign as Contacts arrive, and deal changes leave ActiveCampaign for your ad platforms as they happen. Transparent Logs show every record, so you can see exactly what moved and when.

Do I need a developer?

No. Connecting ActiveCampaign is an authorisation and a field mapping screen, and most accounts are live in about 21 minutes. Whoever administers your ActiveCampaign account is useful for deciding which fields to expose, and our team will do the mapping with you on a call if you prefer.

Is the ActiveCampaign sync GDPR compliant?

Yes. Data is processed and stored in the EU, we sign a data processing agreement, and tracking runs first-party and server-side so it respects consent decisions rather than working around them. Identifiers sent to the ad platforms are hashed before they leave.

What does it cost?

The ActiveCampaign integration is part of the platform rather than a paid add on. Plans are priced on tracked events instead of seats, so your whole team and your agency can share one workspace, and every plan starts with a 14 day free trial without a credit card.
