LeadJourney vs Google Analytics 4

What GA4 measures, and what the marketing needs measured

GA4 is not the wrong tool; it is a web analytics tool. The rows are the features our pricing page lists, with what GA4 does for each one next to them, so the table shows where the gap between the website and the marketing actually is.

Google Analytics 4 compared with LeadJourney, row by row
Built forGoogle Analytics 4Web and app analytics for any site: content, e-commerce and apps, with lead gen as a set of events you define.LeadJourneyLead generation first, B2B and B2C: forms, calls, CRM stages and closed deals are the conversion model, plus e-commerce through the Shopify integration or a manually connected shop, for advertisers, agencies and affiliates.
TrackingGoogle Analytics 4A browser-side tag (gtag or GTM); consent mode models what blockers and declined consent remove. Server-side needs your own sGTM.LeadJourneyFirst-party tracking on your own domain, server-side, 95%+ of conversions captured, nothing to host.
The conversionGoogle Analytics 4Key events you configure: the form submit, the click, the purchase.LeadJourneyThe lead and what it becomes: form fill, phone call (static and dynamic tracking numbers as an add-on), booked meeting, qualified stage, closed deal with its value from the CRM, and the order with its value from the shop.
E-commerceGoogle Analytics 4E-commerce events (items, carts, checkouts, purchases) and the purchases report, once the events are implemented.LeadJourneyShopify natively, any other shop system connected manually: orders, return on ad spend and customer origin per campaign, next to the leads. Product-level reports stay in GA4 or the shop.
CRM and pipelineGoogle Analytics 4No CRM connection; offline outcomes need a data import or the Measurement Protocol, built by you.LeadJourneyHubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Close, Attio, GoHighLevel, ActiveCampaign and Odoo natively, any CRM by webhook, with stages, deal values and CRM enrichment.
Attribution modelsGoogle Analytics 4Data-driven attribution by default, with paid and organic last click; models apply per property.LeadJourneyEvery rule-based model on every plan, switchable per report without re-tracking; custom models on Enterprise.
Revenue back to the ad platformsGoogle Analytics 4Key events flow to Google Ads through the link; Meta, LinkedIn and Microsoft get nothing from GA4.LeadJourneyConversions API sync to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft on every plan; stage changes and closed deals arrive as offline conversions.

Organic and AI search sourcesGoogle Analytics 4AI engines land under referral or direct, by referrer, unless you build channel rules.LeadJourneyGoogle, Bing, YouTube, LinkedIn and the AI engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Grok and DeepSeek) as distinct sources, out of the box.
Lead-level viewGoogle Analytics 4Aggregate reports; user explorations work on anonymous identifiers, not on a named lead.LeadJourneyThe full journey of every named lead, from the first click to the closed deal, with the CRM stage on it.

Credit where it is due

GA4 is free, everywhere, and for understanding how people use a website it is hard to beat. Most LeadJourney customers keep it. The table is about the layer GA4 was never built to be: the join between a click and the deal that closed weeks later, sent back to every ad platform.

Why teams switch

Why marketing teams add LeadJourney next to GA4

Three arguments come up in almost every evaluation. Each one is a set of concrete capabilities, not a slogan.

Built around the lead, with the store beside it

  • Forms, calls and CRM stages as conversions

Every conversion type a lead gen business has, tracked out of the box, with the CRM stage as the signal that matters rather than a checkout event.

  • CRM revenue attribution

Closed revenue from your CRM matched to the campaign, ad and keyword that created it, so return on ad spend is measured on deals, not on lead counts.

  • Offline conversion tracking

Calls, meetings and signed contracts connected back to the exact ad that generated them, and sent to the ad platforms as the conversion they should optimise on.

  • Lead quality by channel

See which channels bring leads that qualify and close, not just the ones that fill the form.

  • The full journey of every lead

Every touchpoint from the first click to the closed deal on one timeline, with the CRM stage on it, for any single lead your sales team asks about.

Your own tracking, every channel

  • Server-side tracking, 95%+ accuracy

Conversions are recorded on your own domain and sent server to server, so ad blockers, iOS and declined consent lose far less of them. 95%+ of conversions captured.

  • Conversions API sync on every plan

Real conversions and revenue go back to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft server-side, so their algorithms optimise on deals that actually closed.

  • Organic and AI search as sources of their own

Google, Bing, YouTube, LinkedIn, email, referrals and the AI engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Grok and DeepSeek) attributed next to your ads at no extra cost.

  • Custom traffic channels and costs

Track affiliates, podcasts, newsletters, PR and print as channels of their own, add their costs by hand, and your return covers everything you spend.

  • Multi-touch attribution, every model

First click, last click, linear, position based and the rest on every plan, switchable without re-tracking anything; custom models on Enterprise.

European, transparent, fast

  • Frankfurt EU hosting

Frankfurt, Germany, with full EU data residency. GDPR compliant by design, with no transfer mechanism to document.

  • GDPR-native architecture

First-party tracking on your own domain, hashed identifiers and no third-party cookies, with an Art. 28 DPA on request. Compliant by default, not by configuration.

  • Public pricing by spend

Public tiers from €129 per month, set by your marketing spend and visible before you talk to anyone, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card.

  • 21 minute setup

From signup to live tracking in under 21 minutes, self-serve; an onboarding call with a tracking expert from Starter, and 14 days of setup support.

  • Ask Atlas, the AI marketing analyst

Atlas reads your campaign, lead and CRM data and answers questions in plain language; Atlas agents watch the data and send daily or weekly reports to email, Slack or WhatsApp.

Switching

From GA4 to LeadJourney in 21 minutes

Nothing to export by hand. Add the script, connect the accounts, and run both tools for a week or two until the numbers agree.

  1. 1About 5 minutes

    Add the LeadJourney script

Paste one snippet into your site or your GTM container, alongside the GA4 tag. It starts recording sessions, click IDs and form fills immediately, and nothing about your current setup changes.

  2. 2About 10 minutes

Connect your ad accounts and CRM

Sign in to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads over OAuth, then connect the CRM where your deals live. Historic campaign data and spend are imported for you.

  3. 3About 6 minutes

Map your CRM stages to conversions

Choose which stages count as a qualified lead and which count as revenue. From then on every stage change flows back to the ad platforms, and you can switch GA4 off once both tools agree.

Before LeadJourney, we had no reliable tracking concept for our five-figure ad spend. We were manually building spreadsheet and CRM reports, inaccurate and time-consuming. Within two days, everything was set up. For the first time, I know exactly what I pay per lead and which campaigns actually bring in the best-qualified prospects.

With LeadJourney, we have finally found a tool that provides us with the data we need to scale our performance marketing campaigns. The most important KPI is no longer lead price but cost per qualified lead.

FAQ

Google Analytics 4 vs LeadJourney, your questions answered

The questions teams ask before adding an attribution platform, answered the way we answer them on calls.

What is the actual difference between GA4 and LeadJourney?

GA4 is web analytics: it measures what happens on the site, sessions, engagement, key events, with a browser tag and consent-based modelling. LeadJourney is the all-in-one attribution platform, lead generation first, B2B and B2C: it tracks on your own domain server-side, follows the lead through the CRM stages to the closed deal and the order through Shopify or a manually connected shop, attributes that revenue across every touch and every channel including AI search, tracks calls through the call tracking add-on, sends stage changes and orders back to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft, and answers questions through Atlas. It hosts in Frankfurt and publishes its prices by spend.

GA4 is free. Why pay for LeadJourney?

Because the expensive part of lead generation is not the analytics, it is the budget spent on leads that never close. GA4 counts the form fill and stops. LeadJourney reads the CRM and tells the ad platforms which form fills became qualified leads and closed deals, so Meta and Google optimise on revenue instead of on submissions. Cost per qualified lead falls, and the reporting that used to take a spreadsheet night arrives on its own. From €129 a month, that pays for itself on the first campaign it stops.

Do we have to remove GA4?

No, and most customers do not. GA4 stays for content and audience questions, and its free BigQuery export keeps working. LeadJourney runs next to it with one script, and becomes the source of truth for leads, pipeline and revenue by channel. The two answer different questions and nothing in either setup changes.

We run a Shopify store and use GA4's e-commerce reports. What does LeadJourney add?

The attribution layer. Shopify connects as an integration (any other shop system manually), and every order is joined to the click that started it, server-side on your own domain: return on ad spend per campaign, ad and keyword, the origin of each customer with AI search as a source of its own, and the purchase sent back to Meta, LinkedIn and Microsoft as well as Google, where GA4 only feeds Google Ads. GA4's product-level reports, items, carts and checkouts, keep their job; product-level catalogue analytics stay with GA4 or a dedicated store tool.

How does LeadJourney track AI search traffic differently from GA4?

GA4 records a visit from ChatGPT, Perplexity or Claude by its referrer, which lands under referral or direct unless you write channel rules for each engine and keep them up to date. LeadJourney recognises ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Grok and DeepSeek as sources of their own, out of the box, and attributes the leads and revenue they produce next to paid and organic search.

We are an EU company. Does hosting matter here?

For a data protection review it does. GA4 runs on Google infrastructure with EU transfers covered by the Data Privacy Framework and a DPA, and its cookies need consent, which is where the modelling comes in. LeadJourney hosts in Frankfurt with full EU data residency, tracks first-party on your own domain without third-party cookies, and provides an Art. 28 GDPR DPA on request. For DACH and EU teams that is the setup a data protection officer expects.

How long does LeadJourney keep the data?

24 months on every plan, 36 months on Scale, and 12 more months as an add-on. GA4's free tier keeps event-level data for 2 or 14 months in explorations and keeps the aggregated standard reports beyond that; Analytics 360 goes to 50 months. If year-on-year lead journeys matter, check the retention on both before you decide.
