The gap

LiveChat knows which chat sold. It does not know which ad paid for the chat.

The Sales Tracker credits an order to the chat before it, and Goals credit it to the agent. Neither records the ad click that brought the visitor, or what the lead was worth in your CRM.

LiveChat attribution on its own

Precise about the chat and the agent, blind to the click before it

  • The Sales Tracker credits a purchase to a chat within a window you set, 30 days by default, so you learn which chats sold, not which campaign paid for the visitor.
  • The Traffic details show the page and the referrer the visitor came from last. A visitor who first clicked a Meta ad and came back through Google is Google's.
  • A campaign in LiveChat is a greeting or a targeted message, so Campaigns Conversion reports on your greetings, not on the ads in front of them.
  • The Google Analytics and Google Ads integrations fire in the browser when a chat starts, so ad blockers, Safari and declined banners remove chats from both.
  • A chat that leaves an email for a sales call ends in LiveChat. The demo, the proposal and the signed deal happen in your CRM, out of LiveChat's view.
  • No ad spend enters LiveChat, so nobody can say what a chat lead costs per campaign, next to a form lead or a call.
  • The ad platforms hear about a chat starting, at best. The lead that qualified and the deal that closed never reach the bidding.

LiveChat with LeadJourney

One journey per chat lead, from the first click to the closed deal

  • Every visit to the pages your LiveChat widget runs on is tracked server-side, with click ID, UTM parameters, referrer and landing page, at 95%+ accuracy.
  • When a chat captures an email or phone, the conversation becomes a lead on the journey that visitor was already on: first click, last click and every touch between.
  • The lead keeps the details the chat produced, so an agent's qualification travels with the source instead of staying in the transcript.
  • Server-side, so nothing is lost to ad blockers, Safari or a declined cookie banner.
  • The chat lead is followed through your CRM to the closed deal, and the revenue lands on the campaign that produced the visit.
  • Spend is pulled from your ad accounts automatically, so cost per chat lead by campaign, channel and keyword is live, beside forms and calls.
  • Qualified chat leads and won deals go back to the ad platforms as conversions with their value, so bidding learns which chats sell.

How it works

LiveChat attribution in, attributed revenue back out

Both chains run on their own once connected: the chat becomes a lead with a full journey behind it, and the revenue goes back to the platform that paid for the click.

  1. 1

Every LiveChat lead arrives with its source

The journey is recording long before the chat window opens.

    Google AdsMetaMicrosoft Ads

Every ad click arrives with its click ID and UTM parameters, and organic, referral and AI search visits arrive with their referrer.

    Your website

On your site, every visit is tracked server-side with its landing page, pages viewed and device, past ad blockers and iOS.

    LiveChat

When the chat captures an email or phone, in the pre-chat form or in the conversation, LeadJourney receives it as a lead.

The chat is joined to the visit it started on, so the lead carries its first click, its last click and every touch between.

  2. 2

Follow the chat to revenue and send it back

So the ad platforms learn which chats were worth paying for.

    HubSpotSalesforcePipedriveShopify

The lead is followed through your CRM or store as it moves: qualified, demo booked, deal won or order paid, with the value.

Cost per chat lead and revenue per campaign, channel and keyword sit in one report, next to form leads, calls and every other channel.

Won deals go back to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads as conversions with their value, so the bidding learns which chats turn into revenue.

The return path

The chat lead goes back as a conversion. The deal follows.

LiveChat's Google Ads integration reports that a chat started. LeadJourney sends the lead it became and the deal it closed, server to server, so campaigns optimise on chats that sell.

  • MetaConversions API

Chat lead, qualified lead and deal won, with value and currency

  • Google AdsOffline conversion import

Conversions matched on gclid, with the deal value for value based bidding

  • LinkedIn AdsConversions API

Chat lead and won revenue matched on li_fat_id

  • Microsoft AdsOffline conversions

Conversions matched on msclkid, with deal value

You choose what counts as a conversion

Map the chat lead, a qualified stage or the won deal to a platform event, or all three.

Chats that sell become the optimisation target

When the platform learns which chats buy and which only ask about shipping, it finds more of the first kind, so the cost per sale falls.

Sent server to server

No pixel to fire, nothing for an ad blocker or a declined cookie banner to remove.

Reporting

The questions LiveChat's reports cannot answer

Every one of these is a report in LeadJourney rather than an export from LiveChat. LiveChat stays where your agents sell, and LeadJourney shows which ads send them the chats worth having.

  • Which campaign produced the chats that turned into paying customers last quarter?

  • What does a chat lead cost us on Google, Meta and Microsoft Ads, and what does a closed deal from chat cost?

  • Do chat leads close better than form leads and calls from the same campaign?

  • Which landing pages start the chats that close, and which only start chats about delivery times?

  • Which agents close the chats from paid traffic, and which close the ones from organic search?

  • How many chats came from ChatGPT and Perplexity visitors last month, and did any of them buy?

LeadJourney and LiveChat's own reports

Where LiveChat's reports end and LeadJourney starts

LiveChat's reports show the chat, the agent and the order the Sales Tracker credits to it. The ad click before the chat and the deal in your CRM are out of view.

Keep LiveChat. Give every chat a history.

LiveChat stays where your agents answer, qualify and sell. LeadJourney records what happened before the chat and after it, and hands the result to the platforms where the budget is spent.

FAQ

What LiveChat users ask before connecting

If yours is not here, our team answers in the chat within a few minutes.

How is LiveChat attribution with LeadJourney different from the Sales Tracker?

The Sales Tracker answers which chat came before an order, and credits it to the agent. LeadJourney answers the question before that: which ad, search or post brought the visitor who opened the chat, and what the lead was worth in your CRM. Use both. The Sales Tracker tells you which agents sell, LeadJourney tells you which campaigns send them chats worth selling to.

How does the chat find the ad the visitor clicked?

The LeadJourney script records the visit server-side from the first click, with its click ID and UTM parameters. When the chat on that visit captures an email or phone, the lead is joined to the journey already recorded for that visitor, including touches from earlier visits.

Which LiveChat chats become leads?

Chats where the visitor leaves contact details, in the pre-chat form or in the conversation. A chat that only asks about delivery times and leaves nothing behind stays in LiveChat. Each lead lands with its journey attached, and once it is in your CRM the stage changes are read from there.

Does LiveChat conversion tracking still work with ad blockers and iOS?

Yes, that is the point of tracking server-side. The visit and the click ID are recorded on the server before an ad blocker, Safari or a declined banner can remove them, at 95%+ accuracy, and the conversion goes back to the ad platforms server to server rather than from a browser tag.

Can I see cost per chat lead, and compare it with forms and calls?

Yes. Spend is pulled from your ad accounts and joined to the leads, so cost per chat lead is live per campaign, channel and keyword, next to form leads and calls from the same campaigns. Once the CRM is connected, cost per closed deal and revenue per chat lead sit beside it.

Can I see revenue per agent by campaign?

LiveChat already reports sales and goals per agent. In LeadJourney the agent who handled the chat can be read next to the source, so you can see which agents close the chats your paid campaigns produce.

Can I send chat leads back to Meta and Google Ads?

Yes. A chat lead can go back as a lead event, and the qualified and won stages from your CRM follow with the value attached: to Meta through the Conversions API, to Google Ads as an offline conversion import matched on gclid, to LinkedIn through the Conversions API and to Microsoft Ads matched on msclkid.

Do I need a developer?

No. The script is one line in your site or your GTM container, connecting LiveChat is done from the integrations screen, and mapping stages to events is a settings screen. Most accounts are live in about 21 minutes, and our team will do the setup with you on a call if you prefer.

Is it GDPR compliant?

Yes. Data is processed and stored in the EU, we sign a data processing agreement, and tracking runs first-party and server-side so consent decisions are respected rather than worked around. LeadJourney reads the contact details a chat captured, and the conversation itself stays in LiveChat.

What does it cost?

The LiveChat integration is part of the platform rather than a paid add on. Plans are priced on tracked events instead of seats, so your whole team and your agency can share one workspace, and every plan starts with a 14 day free trial without a credit card.
