Intercom attribution, every chat lead matched to the campaign behind it
Leads that Fin and your team qualify in the Messenger arrive with campaign, channel and keyword, so pipeline from chat has a source.

AI Attribution Engine
LeadJourneyServer-side tracking, multi-touch models, every channel in one place- Server-side tracking of every visit
- Multi-touch attribution per lead
- Won deals sent back to the ad platforms
Every conversation that leaves contact details is matched to the click that produced the visit. The chat lands as a lead with its campaign, channel and keyword attached, and once the deal closes, the revenue goes back to the ad account.

The gap
Intercom knows the lead is qualified. It does not know which ad produced the visit.
Fin and your team qualify visitors in the Messenger, and Intercom creates the lead in HubSpot or Salesforce. What arrives there is a contact with the last UTM campaign at best, and no ad cost or deal behind it.
Intercom attribution on its own
Good at the conversation, blind to the click before it and the deal after it
- Intercom stores the five UTM parameters and the Referral URL on a contact, but only the most recent campaign, and only from a URL that loaded the Messenger.
- A lead whose first visit came from a LinkedIn ad and who chatted after a brand search is credited to the brand search, or to nothing when the URL carried no parameters.
- Click IDs such as gclid and fbclid are not part of the contact, so the conversation cannot be matched back to the click in Google or Meta.
- The lead created in HubSpot or Salesforce from the chat lands as a chat lead, which most CRMs then file under Direct or Offline sources.
- Intercom reports on conversations, Fin's answers and the team's performance. No ad spend enters Intercom, so cost per chat lead by campaign lives in a spreadsheet.
- The demo, the opportunity and the closed deal happen in the CRM, so nobody can say which campaign the pipeline from chat came from.
- Nothing goes back to Meta, Google or LinkedIn, so the algorithms keep buying the visitors who chat, not the ones who sign.
Intercom with LeadJourney
One journey per chat lead, from the first click to the closed deal
- Every visit to the pages your Messenger runs on is tracked server-side, with click ID, UTM parameters, referrer and landing page, at 95%+ accuracy.
- When a conversation captures contact details, it lands as a lead stitched to the whole journey, first click to last, not only the latest campaign.
- What Fin or your team learned in the conversation can sit on the lead next to its source, so a qualified chat is told apart from a support question.
- Server-side, so nothing is lost to ad blockers, Safari or a declined cookie banner.
- The lead is followed through HubSpot or Salesforce, from demo booked to closed won, and the revenue lands on the campaign that produced the chat.
- Spend is pulled from your ad accounts automatically, so cost per chat lead and pipeline from chat are live by campaign, channel and keyword.
- Qualified leads and won deals go back to the ad platforms as conversions with their value, so bidding learns which chats become customers.
How it works
Intercom attribution in, attributed pipeline back out
Both chains run on their own once connected: the chat becomes a lead with a full journey behind it, and the revenue goes back to the platform that paid for the click.
1 Every Intercom chat lead arrives with its source
The journey is recording long before the Messenger opens.
Every ad click arrives with its click ID and UTM parameters, and organic, referral and AI search visits arrive with their referrer.
On your site, every visit is tracked server-side with its landing page, pages viewed and device, past ad blockers and iOS.
When Fin or a teammate captures an email in the Messenger, LeadJourney receives the conversation as a lead with the details you chose.
The chat lead is stitched to the journey that led to it, so it carries its first click, its last click and every touch between.
2 Follow the chat lead to revenue and send it back
So the ad platforms learn which conversations were worth paying for.
The lead is followed through your CRM as it changes stage: demo booked, opportunity, closed won, with the deal value.
Cost per chat lead, cost per demo and pipeline per campaign, channel and keyword sit in one report, next to forms, calls and every other channel.
Won deals go back to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads as conversions with their value, so the bidding learns which chats turn into revenue.
The return path
The chat lead goes back as a conversion. The closed deal follows.
A qualified chat is the first thing the ad platform hears about. Once your CRM marks the demo held or the deal won, that outcome travels back too, so campaigns optimise on the conversations that become pipeline.
MetaConversions API
Chat lead, qualified lead and deal won, with value and currency
Google AdsOffline conversion import
Conversions matched on gclid, with the deal value for value based bidding
LinkedIn AdsConversions API
Qualified lead and won revenue matched on li_fat_id
Microsoft AdsOffline conversions
Conversions matched on msclkid, with deal value
You choose what counts as a conversion
Map the chat lead, a booked demo or the won deal to a platform event, or all three.
Lead quality becomes the optimisation target
When the platform learns which chats book a demo and which only asked a question, it buys more of the first kind, so the cost per opportunity falls.
Sent server to server
No pixel to fire, nothing for an ad blocker or a declined cookie banner to remove.
Reporting
The questions Intercom's reports cannot answer
Each of these is a report in LeadJourney rather than a CRM export. Intercom stays where Fin and your team talk to visitors, and LeadJourney shows where each chat lead came from and what it closed.
Which campaign produced the chat leads that became closed won deals last quarter?
What does a chat lead cost us on LinkedIn, Google and Meta, and what does a booked demo cost?
Do leads Fin qualifies close as often as the ones our team qualifies, per campaign?
How do chat leads compare with form leads and calls on cost and win rate?
How many chats came from ChatGPT and Perplexity last month, and did any of them buy?
Which pages start the conversations that close, and which only start support questions?
LeadJourney and Intercom's own data
Where Intercom's lead data ends and LeadJourney starts
Intercom records the conversation, the qualification and the latest UTM campaign on the contact. The click before the chat and the deal after it are out of view.
| Capability | With LeadJourney | |
|---|---|---|
| Intercom attribution | With LeadJourneyEvery chat lead is matched to the full journey recorded server-side, first click to last, whether or not the URL carried parameters. | |
| Click IDs | With LeadJourneyCaptured with the landing page and referrer, then stitched to the chat lead. | |
| The conversation itself | With LeadJourneyLeft to Intercom. LeadJourney reports on what the chat leads became. | |
| Browser tracking | With LeadJourneyServer-side and first-party, so the visit and the lead are recorded at 95%+ accuracy. | |
| Ad spend and cost per chat lead | With LeadJourneySpend pulled from Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads automatically, so cost per chat lead and per demo are live per campaign and keyword. | |
| Pipeline and revenue | With LeadJourneyPipeline and won revenue attributed to the campaign, channel and keyword that produced the chat. | |
| Conversions back to the ad platforms | With LeadJourneyChat lead, demo and won deal sent server to server with value, so the bidding learns which conversations pay. | |
| Other channels | With LeadJourneyOne model across paid, organic, referral and AI search, so every chat lead is counted once. |
Keep Intercom. Give every chat lead a history.
Intercom stays where Fin and your team talk to visitors and qualify them. LeadJourney records what happened before the chat and what happened after, and hands the result to the platforms where the budget is spent.

“Before LeadJourney, we had no reliable tracking concept for our five-figure ad spend. We were manually building spreadsheet and CRM reports, inaccurate and time-consuming. Within two days, everything was set up. For the first time, I know exactly what I pay per lead and which campaigns actually bring in the best-qualified prospects.”
Florian BuckCEO, Klickkraft GmbH “With LeadJourney we are able to track all our leads and connect them with sales and attribution data to make better decisions. In the first month of using it we scaled from 0 to 100k revenue from paid ads only.”

FAQ
What Intercom teams ask before connecting
If yours is not here, our team answers in the chat within a few minutes.
How is Intercom attribution with LeadJourney different from the UTM attributes in Intercom?
Intercom keeps the five UTM parameters and the Referral URL on a contact, from the most recent campaign URL that loaded the Messenger. That is the last step and nothing before it: the LinkedIn ad a month earlier, the organic visit in between, the bookmark the visitor came back through. LeadJourney records the whole journey server-side, click IDs included, and matches the chat lead to it.
Intercom already syncs leads to HubSpot and Salesforce. What does this add?
The sync moves the contact and what Fin or your team learned in the conversation. It does not move the ad click, the first touch or the spend. LeadJourney joins the chat lead to its journey, follows it through the same CRM to the deal, and puts pipeline and revenue on the campaign that produced the visit.
How is a conversation matched to the visitor's journey?
The LeadJourney script runs on the same pages as the Messenger and records the visit from the first click. When the conversation captures contact details, the lead is matched to that visitor, so the chat carries its first click, its last click and every touch between.
Fin qualifies our leads. Do its answers come through?
The qualification details you choose can sit on the lead next to its source, so you can report on qualified chat leads rather than every conversation, and send only those to the ad platforms. Support questions without contact details never become leads.
Can I see cost per chat lead by campaign?
Yes. Spend is pulled from your ad accounts and joined to the chat leads, so cost per chat lead is live per campaign, channel and keyword, next to form leads and calls. Once the CRM is connected, cost per demo and pipeline per chat lead sit beside it.
Can I send chat leads back to Meta and Google Ads?
Yes. A qualified chat lead can go back as a lead event, and the demo and closed won stages from your CRM follow with the deal value: to Meta through the Conversions API, to Google Ads as an offline conversion import matched on gclid, to LinkedIn through the Conversions API and to Microsoft Ads matched on msclkid.
What about conversations in the in app Messenger?
Website chats are the ones a campaign produces. A conversation counts as a chat lead where the LeadJourney script runs on the page the Messenger sits on; a logged in customer asking for help in your product is a support conversation, not a new lead.
Do I need a developer?
No. The script is one line in your site or your GTM container, connecting Intercom is done from the integrations screen, and mapping stages to events is a settings screen. Most accounts are live in about 21 minutes, and our team will do the setup with you on a call if you prefer.
Is it GDPR compliant?
Yes. Data is processed and stored in the EU, we sign a data processing agreement, and tracking runs first-party and server-side so consent decisions are respected rather than worked around. The transcript stays in Intercom; LeadJourney takes the contact details and the fields you put in scope.
What does it cost?
The Intercom integration is part of the platform rather than a paid add on. Plans are priced on tracked events instead of seats, so your whole team and your agency can share one workspace, and every plan starts with a 14 day free trial without a credit card.
