The gap

Mollie knows the payment was paid. It does not know which ad paid for it.

The Mollie Dashboard is exact about payments, methods, refunds and settlements. Where the customer came from is not on any of them, because the ad click happened before the checkout.

Mollie on its own

Exact about the money, blind to the click before it

  • The Dashboard reports payments by status, method and amount. The marketing source is not a field on a payment.
  • A Mollie payment begins at checkout. The sessions and ad clicks before that moment never reach Mollie.
  • A source only lands on a payment if a developer writes it into metadata, and then it is the last page, not the journey.
  • No ad spend enters Mollie, so ROAS and cost per paying customer live in a spreadsheet.
  • Recurring payments on a mandate arrive month after month with no link to the campaign that won the customer.
  • The Meta pixel and Google tag fire on the thank you page, which a customer paying by iDEAL or Bancontact in their banking app often never returns to.
  • Nothing travels back to Meta, Google or LinkedIn, so the platforms keep optimising on checkouts started rather than payments paid.

Mollie with LeadJourney

One journey per customer, from the first click to the paid payment

  • Every visit is captured server-side at 95%+ accuracy, before the customer reaches checkout.
  • The anonymous first click is stitched to the Mollie payment at checkout, so the ad that started the journey is credited.
  • Payments, subscriptions, refunds and chargebacks are read as they happen and joined to the journey. No metadata to write.
  • Spend is pulled from your ad accounts automatically, so ROAS and cost per paying customer are live per channel, campaign and ad.
  • Every recurring payment on a mandate is added to the campaign that acquired the customer, so lifetime value per channel is one report.
  • The payment is counted when Mollie marks it paid, whether or not the customer ever came back from their bank to the thank you page.
  • Every paid payment goes back to the platform that produced the customer as a purchase event with its amount, server to server.

How it works

Mollie payments in, attributed revenue back out

Both directions run on their own once connected. The first is what makes Mollie revenue attribution possible at all. The second puts the paid payment where the budget is decided.

  1. 1

Mollie revenue attribution from the first click to the paid payment

The journey is recording long before the customer opens checkout.

    MetaGoogle AdsLinkedIn AdsYour website

Ad clicks, spend, sessions and click IDs are tracked server-side across paid, organic and AI search.

    Mollie

LeadJourney reads your payments, subscriptions, refunds and chargebacks as they happen.

The payment is matched to the journey that produced the customer, from the first anonymous click to the paid payment.

Revenue, ROAS and cost per paying customer, per channel, campaign and ad.

  2. 2

The payment goes back to the ad platform that earned it

So bidding optimises on paid revenue instead of checkouts started.

    Mollie

A payment is paid, a subscription starts or a recurring payment comes in.

LeadJourney turns it into a purchase event with the amount and currency, matched to the click ID that started the journey.

    MetaGoogle AdsLinkedIn AdsMicrosoft Ads

The event reaches Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads server to server, as an offline conversion.

Bidding learns which clicks become paying customers, so budget moves to the campaigns that get paid.

The return path

Paid Mollie revenue, back in the ad account that earned it

A started checkout is not a result. Once Mollie marks the payment paid, the amount goes back to the platform that produced the click.

  • MetaConversions API

First payment paid, subscription started and recurring payment paid, with amount and currency

  • Google AdsOffline conversion import

Paid payments matched on gclid, with the amount for value based bidding

  • LinkedIn AdsConversions API

Subscriptions and payments matched on li_fat_id

  • Microsoft AdsOffline conversions

Paid payments matched on msclkid, with the amount

You choose what counts as a conversion

Map any Mollie event to any platform event. First payment paid, subscription started, every recurring payment, or all three.

Value based bidding gets the real amount

The payment amount travels with the event, so tROAS strategies optimise on what was actually paid instead of a flat value.

Sent server to server

No pixel on a thank you page the customer may never see after paying in their banking app.

Reporting

The questions the Mollie Dashboard cannot answer

Every one of these is a report in LeadJourney rather than an export. Mollie stays the source of truth for revenue, and LeadJourney supplies the source that produced it.

  • Which campaign produced the revenue Mollie paid out last month, not just the checkouts?

  • What does a paying customer actually cost us in ad spend, per channel?

  • Which channel brings the subscribers whose mandates keep paying, and which brings the ones who cancel after the first month?

  • Do the customers from Meta pay by iDEAL and the ones from Google by card, and does it change what they are worth?

  • How much revenue came from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini last quarter?

  • Which campaigns are sending customers who refund or charge back?

LeadJourney and the Mollie Dashboard

Where the Mollie Dashboard ends and LeadJourney starts

The Mollie Dashboard reconciles every payment, refund and settlement to the cent. None of it was built to know where the customer came from.

Keep the Dashboard. Add the click before it.

Mollie stays the system of record for payments and the place your finance team reconciles from. LeadJourney fills in the measurement layer in front of it and hands the paid payment to the platforms where the budget is spent.

FAQ

What Mollie merchants ask before connecting

If yours is not here, our team answers in the chat within a few minutes.

How does LeadJourney match a Mollie payment to an ad click?

The journey is recorded server-side from the first anonymous visit. When the visitor reaches checkout and pays, that session is stitched to the Mollie payment, and every later payment from the same customer is joined to the same journey. Nothing has to be written into Mollie metadata for this to work.

Does LeadJourney write anything into my Mollie account?

No. The integration is read only: LeadJourney reads payments, subscriptions, refunds and chargebacks, and writes nothing back. Your Mollie data, your Dashboard and your settlements are unchanged.

Does Mollie revenue attribution cover subscriptions and recurring payments?

Yes. The first payment that creates the mandate is attributed to the journey that acquired the customer, and every recurring payment on that mandate is added to the same channel and campaign as it is paid. That turns ROAS into a lifetime value figure per channel instead of a first payment snapshot.

My customers pay with iDEAL or Bancontact and often never return to the thank you page. Is the payment still counted?

Yes. The payment is counted when Mollie marks it paid, not when a page loads in the browser. A customer who pays in their banking app and closes it is attributed the same as one who comes back to your site.

How are refunds and chargebacks handled?

They are read alongside the payment they belong to, so the revenue a campaign is credited with reflects what you kept. A campaign whose customers refund or charge back looks different from one whose customers stay.

Which Mollie events can I send back to Meta and Google?

Any event you map: first payment paid, subscription started, recurring payment paid, or all of them. Each event carries the amount and currency, and it reaches Meta through the Conversions API, Google Ads as an offline conversion import matched on gclid, LinkedIn through the Conversions API and Microsoft Ads matched on msclkid.

My shop runs Mollie through the WooCommerce, Shopware or Magento plugin. Which do I connect?

Either works, and connecting both does not count a sale twice: the shop order and the Mollie payment behind it resolve to one purchase on the journey. Connect the shop for order lines and products, Mollie for recurring payments and refunds.

How is this different from putting UTMs into Mollie metadata myself?

Metadata records what your checkout knew at that moment, which is usually the last page and sometimes nothing, because the UTM was lost two visits earlier. LeadJourney records every session server-side from the first click, joins spend from your ad accounts, and sends the payment back to the platforms, with no developer to maintain it.

Do I need a developer?

No. Connecting Mollie is a sign in and an authorisation screen, the ad accounts are the same, and mapping events is a settings page. Most accounts are live in about 21 minutes, and our team will do the setup with you on a call if you prefer.

Is the Mollie integration GDPR compliant?

Yes. LeadJourney processes and stores data in the EU, signs a data processing agreement, and tracks first-party and server-side so consent decisions are respected rather than worked around. Payment credentials never leave Mollie: LeadJourney reads amounts, status and method, not card or bank details.

What does it cost?

The Mollie integration is part of the platform rather than a paid add on. Every plan starts with a 14 day free trial.
