The gap
Stripe knows the invoice was paid. It does not know which ad paid for it.
The Stripe Dashboard is right to the cent about revenue, subscriptions and refunds. Where the customer came from is not on any of those records, because the ad click happened before the customer existed.
Stripe attribution on its own
Exact about the money, blind to the click before it
- The Dashboard reports revenue by product, price and customer. The marketing source is not a field on a charge, a subscription or an invoice.
- A Stripe customer begins at signup or checkout. The sessions and ad clicks before that moment never reach Stripe.
- A source only lands in Stripe if a developer writes it into metadata at checkout, and then it is the last page, not the journey.
- No ad spend enters Stripe, so ROAS and cost per paying customer are a spreadsheet someone builds once a quarter.
- Billing reports MRR, churn and renewals. Which campaign the churning customers came from is a question it cannot ask, because the campaign is not in Stripe.
- Sigma and Data Pipeline give you SQL over every Stripe object, so joining payments to marketing is possible, as a data project with a warehouse.
- Nothing travels back to Meta, Google or LinkedIn, so the platforms keep optimising on signups and form fills rather than on paid invoices.
Stripe with LeadJourney
One journey per customer, from the first click to the paid invoice
- Every visit is captured server-side at 95%+ accuracy, before a Stripe customer exists.
- The anonymous first click is stitched to the Stripe customer at signup or checkout, so the ad that started the journey is credited.
- Charges, subscriptions, invoices and refunds are read as they happen and joined to the journey. No metadata to write, no developer.
- Spend is pulled from your ad accounts automatically, so ROAS and cost per paying customer are live per channel, campaign and ad.
- MRR, renewals and churn are grouped by the channel and campaign that acquired the customer, so lifetime value per channel is one report.
- Ready made reports instead of a warehouse. The join a Sigma query would need is already made.
- Every payment goes back to the platform that produced the customer as a purchase event with its amount, server to server.
How it works
Stripe payments in, attributed revenue back out
Both directions run on their own once connected. The first is what makes Stripe revenue attribution possible at all. The second puts the paid invoice where the budget is decided.
1 Stripe revenue attribution from the first click to the paid invoice
The journey is recording long before the customer has a Stripe record.
Ad clicks, spend, sessions, signups and click IDs are tracked server-side across paid, organic and AI search.
LeadJourney reads your customers, charges, subscriptions, invoices and refunds as they happen.
The payment is matched to the journey that produced the customer, from the first anonymous click to the paid invoice.
Revenue, MRR, ROAS and cost per paying customer, per channel, campaign and ad.
2 The payment goes back to the ad platform that earned it
So bidding optimises on paid revenue instead of signups.
A charge succeeds, a subscription starts or an invoice is paid.
LeadJourney turns it into a purchase event with the amount and currency, matched to the click ID that started the journey.
The event reaches Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads server to server, as an offline conversion.
Bidding learns which clicks become paying customers, so budget moves to the campaigns that get paid.
The return path
Paid Stripe revenue, back in the ad account that earned it
A signup is not a result. Once Stripe collects the payment, the amount goes back to the platform that produced the click.
MetaConversions API
Trial started, subscription started and payment succeeded, with amount and currency
Google AdsOffline conversion import
Payments matched on gclid, with the amount for value based bidding
LinkedIn AdsConversions API
Signups, subscriptions and payments matched on li_fat_id
Microsoft AdsOffline conversions
Payments matched on msclkid, with the amount
You choose what counts as a conversion
Map any Stripe event to any platform event. Trial started, subscription started, first invoice paid, or all three.
Value based bidding gets the real amount
The charge amount travels with the event, so tROAS strategies optimise on what was actually paid instead of a flat lead value.
Sent server to server
No pixel to fire, nothing for an ad blocker or a declined cookie banner to remove.
Reporting
The questions the Stripe Dashboard cannot answer
Every one of these is a report in LeadJourney rather than a Sigma query. Stripe stays the source of truth for revenue, and LeadJourney supplies the source that produced it.
Which campaign produced the revenue Stripe collected last month, not just the signups?
What does a paying customer actually cost us in ad spend, per channel?
Which channel brings the subscribers who renew, and which brings the ones who churn after the trial?
How much MRR came from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini last quarter?
Which landing page turns visitors into paid invoices rather than free trials?
Which campaigns are buying trials that never convert to a paid plan?
LeadJourney and the Stripe Dashboard
Where the Stripe Dashboard ends and LeadJourney starts
The Stripe Dashboard reconciles every charge, subscription and refund to the cent. None of it was built to know where the customer came from.

| Refunds and disputes | With LeadJourneyRead alongside the charge, so the revenue a campaign is credited with is the revenue you kept. | |
| Attribution models | With LeadJourneyFirst click, last click, linear and position based, switchable without re-tracking anything. | |
| Organic, direct, referral and AI search | With LeadJourneyFirst class channels next to paid, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini. | |

Keep the Dashboard. Add the click before it.
Stripe stays the system of record for revenue and the place your finance team reports from. LeadJourney fills in the measurement layer in front of it and hands the paid invoice to the platforms where the budget is spent.

“Before LeadJourney, we had no reliable tracking concept for our five-figure ad spend. We were manually building spreadsheet and CRM reports, inaccurate and time-consuming. Within two days, everything was set up. For the first time, I know exactly what I pay per lead and which campaigns actually bring in the best-qualified prospects.”
Florian BuckCEO, Klickkraft GmbH “With LeadJourney we are able to track all our leads and connect them with sales and attribution data to make better decisions. In the first month of using it we scaled from 0 to 100k revenue from paid ads only.”

FAQ
What Stripe teams ask before connecting
If yours is not here, our team answers in the chat within a few minutes.
How does LeadJourney match a Stripe payment to an ad click?
The journey is recorded server-side from the first anonymous visit. When the visitor signs up or completes checkout, that session is stitched to the Stripe customer, and every charge, subscription and invoice on that customer from then on is joined to the same journey. Nothing has to be written into Stripe metadata for this to work.
Does LeadJourney write anything into my Stripe account?
No. The integration is read only: LeadJourney reads customers, charges, subscriptions, invoices and refunds, and writes nothing back. Your Stripe data, your Dashboard and your finance reporting are unchanged.
Does Stripe revenue attribution cover subscriptions and renewals, not just one-off payments?
Yes. A subscription is attributed to the journey that acquired the customer, and its renewal invoices are added to the same channel and campaign as they are paid. That is what turns ROAS into a lifetime value figure per channel instead of a first payment snapshot.
How are refunds handled?
Refunds are read alongside the charge they belong to, so the revenue a campaign is credited with reflects what you kept. A campaign that produces customers who refund in week two looks different from one that produces customers who stay.
Which Stripe events can I send back to Meta and Google?
Any event you map: trial started, subscription started, first invoice paid, payment succeeded, or all of them. Each event carries the amount and currency, and it reaches Meta through the Conversions API, Google Ads as an offline conversion import matched on gclid, LinkedIn through the Conversions API and Microsoft Ads matched on msclkid.
A customer pays three months after the first ad click. Is the payment still attributed?
Yes. The journey has no window, so the payment is credited to the campaign that started it, however long the trial or the sales cycle took. The ad platforms apply their own attribution settings to the events they receive, so late payments mainly improve optimisation there. The report that matches revenue to the ad lives in LeadJourney.
How is this different from putting UTMs into Stripe metadata myself?
Metadata records what your checkout page knew at that moment, which is usually the last page and sometimes nothing, because the UTM was lost two visits earlier. LeadJourney records every session server-side from the first click, joins spend from your ad accounts, and sends the payment back to the platforms. It also needs no developer to maintain it.
How often does Stripe data sync?
Payments, subscriptions and invoices are read as they happen rather than as a nightly batch, and the attributed revenue updates with them. Transparent Logs show every record that moved and when.
Do I need a developer?
No. Connecting Stripe is a sign in and an authorisation screen, the ad accounts are the same, and mapping events is a settings page. Most accounts are live in about 21 minutes, and our team will do the setup with you on a call if you prefer.
Is the Stripe integration GDPR compliant?
Yes. LeadJourney processes and stores data in the EU, signs a data processing agreement, and tracks first-party and server-side so consent decisions are respected rather than worked around. Card details never leave Stripe: LeadJourney reads amounts, customers and status, not payment credentials.
What does it cost?
The Stripe integration is part of the platform rather than a paid add on. Plans are priced on tracked events instead of seats, so your whole team and your agency can share one workspace, and every plan starts with a 14 day free trial without a credit card.
