The gap

TikTok knows the video took off. Your analytics files the taps under direct.

TikTok Analytics measures everything inside TikTok. The moment someone taps your bio link they leave that view, in an in-app browser that often hands your site no referrer at all, so your analytics calls the visit direct.

TikTok attribution in your analytics today

Precise about the view, blind after the tap

  • TikTok Analytics reports views, watch time, likes, shares, profile views and where the views came from. What happened after the bio link was tapped is outside its view.
  • Links open in TikTok's in-app browser, which often sends no referrer at all, and no referrer means direct in GA4.
  • When a referrer does arrive, tiktok.com lands in GA4's Organic Social: one line for all of TikTok, no video named.
  • A link-in-bio tool adds a hop, so the referrer your site sees is the tool's domain, and the visit is filed under referral.
  • GA4 records the visit in the browser, so an ad blocker or a declined cookie banner removes the session before TikTok gets any credit.
  • Sessions and key events end at the form. Whether the lead qualified or the deal closed is a question for the CRM, which has never heard of the video.
  • Telling videos apart means swapping the bio link every time a video takes off, or a UTM per link that somebody maintains, and even then the answer is sessions, never revenue.

TikTok with LeadJourney

One source, every link, followed to revenue per video

  • The tracking script recognises a TikTok referral server-side as the page loads and reports it as one source called TikTok, separated from direct and from the rest of social.
  • The bio link and each video link carry a UTM that names the video, so the video that earned the tap is on the journey, and the source survives an in-app browser that drops the referrer.
  • The visit is recorded server-side and first-party, at 95%+ accuracy, past ad blockers and declined banners.
  • The tap is stitched to the lead at form submit, and the journey follows the lead through your CRM, stage by stage, to closed won.
  • TikTok sits in the same multi-touch model as Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, organic search and AI search, so a TikTok first touch and a brand-search close are one journey, not two sessions.
  • A link-in-bio tool is fine. The UTM on the link inside it carries TikTok and the video through the extra hop, so the tool's domain never becomes the source.
  • Every video is a line in the report: visits, leads, pipeline and won revenue, so you know which videos earn the hours that went into them.

How it works

TikTok attribution in two steps: recognise the tap, follow it to revenue

Both run on their own once the script is on the site: the visit is read server-side, then the lead, the pipeline and the won revenue behind a video.

  1. 1

TikTok bio link tracking from the tap to the lead

The tap is recognised on the server, with the video attached, whether or not TikTok sends a referrer.

    TikTok

A viewer watches your video and taps the link in your bio or the link on the video, each tagged with a UTM that names the video.

    Your website

The tracking script reads the referrer and the UTM server-side on arrival and files the visit under TikTok with the video attached, not under direct and not under a link-in-bio tool.

The landing page, the pages read and every later visit join one anonymous first-party journey, so a return through a brand search a week later is the same person.

When the viewer fills in a form or books a call, the journey is stitched to the lead, and the video is on record as the first touch.

  2. 2

Follow the lead through your CRM and compare every video with every other channel

The views were free. The question is which videos pay for themselves.

With a two-way CRM connected, the journey is written onto the record: TikTok as the source, the video, the link it came from and the touches that followed.

    HubSpotSalesforcePipedriveAttio

Your CRM reports the outcome as it happens: qualified, opportunity, deal value and closed won, read back into the journey as the stages change.

TikTok appears in the traffic channel report as its own line, with a row per video underneath it: visits, leads, pipeline and won revenue.

The multi-touch models weigh TikTok against Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, organic search and AI search, so you learn whether short video opens deals, closes them, or both.

Your CRM closes the loop

Your CRM shows what the video was worth

An organic video has no ad account behind it, no spend and no conversions API. Its value only appears in the CRM, so LeadJourney follows every TikTok lead there and reads the outcome back out.

  • HubSpotTwo-way sync

Contacts and Deals, with stage, amount and close date, read as they change.

  • SalesforceTwo-way sync

Revenue per video, not views per video

Each video's line in your reports carries won revenue from the CRM, so a video with a million views and no deals and a video with ten thousand views and two large ones are both visible for what they are.

Lead quality by video

You see how many leads each video sends, how many qualify, how many stall, and how the channel compares with Instagram, LinkedIn and organic search, before deciding what to film next.

No window to expire

A tap in January that becomes a deal in April still credits the video. The journey runs until the deal closes, not for a lookback period.

Reporting

The questions TikTok Analytics cannot answer

Each of these is a report filtered to the TikTok source, not a UTM spreadsheet and an export. The TikTok line simply exists now and it runs all the way to revenue.

  • Which of our videos produced the leads we closed last quarter, not just the views?

  • How much won revenue started with a tap on our bio link this year?

  • Which videos send viewers who become qualified leads, and which send viewers who bounce?

  • Is TikTok opening deals that Google Ads later closes, or closing deals our content opened?

  • How does TikTok compare with Instagram, LinkedIn and organic search on leads and deal size?

  • How much of what we reported as direct was TikTok's in-app browser all along?

LeadJourney and TikTok Analytics

Where TikTok Analytics ends and LeadJourney starts

TikTok Analytics knows views, watch time and where they came from, per video. Its view ends at TikTok's edge, and a CRM was never part of it.

TikTok Analytics compared with LeadJourney, capability by capability
TikTok attributionTikTok AnalyticsViews, watch time, completion rate and traffic source types, per video. What happened after the bio link was tapped is outside TikTok.With LeadJourneyEvery bio link and video link tap followed to the lead, the pipeline and the won deal, per video.
Where the tap is recordedTikTok AnalyticsNot in TikTok Analytics. The tap leaves TikTok and lands in your site's own analytics, in the browser, where blockers and declined consent remove it.With LeadJourneyServer-side and first-party on your site, at 95%+ accuracy, with the UTM carrying the video when the in-app browser drops the referrer.
What is countedTikTok AnalyticsViews, likes, comments, shares, profile views and followers. With LeadJourneyVisits, leads, qualified leads, pipeline and won revenue, per video.
RevenueTikTok AnalyticsCreator and Shop earnings where your account is in those programmes. Nothing about the deals your videos start on your own site. With LeadJourneyWon CRM revenue, attributed to the video that started the journey.
The attribution windowTikTok AnalyticsNone, because the report ends at the view. Your site analytics adds lookback windows of up to 90 days on top. With LeadJourneyNo window. The journey runs from the tap to closed won, however long the sales cycle.
Other touchesTikTok AnalyticsA viewer who returns through a brand search a week later is a new session in your analytics and not visible in TikTok Analytics at all. With LeadJourneyTikTok weighed against Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, organic search and AI search in one multi-touch model, joined at the lead.
The in-app browserTikTok AnalyticsOpens every link, and often hands your site no referrer, so the tap arrives as direct in GA4 and disappears into the biggest bucket there is.With LeadJourneyThe UTM on the link carries TikTok and the video regardless, and the script reads it server-side, so the tap is filed correctly whatever the browser sent.
SetupTikTok AnalyticsNothing for TikTok Analytics itself. Video-level reporting on your site means a UTM convention plus a custom report somebody builds and maintains. With LeadJourneyThe script recognises TikTok on its own. A UTM per link adds the video, and the report already exists.
Consent and GDPRTikTok AnalyticsTikTok Analytics' numbers are TikTok's own. Your site analytics needs consent to set its cookies and models the sessions that declined. With LeadJourneyFirst-party by design and processed in the EU, at 95%+ accuracy, with a DPA.

Keep TikTok Analytics. Give each video a revenue line.

TikTok Analytics stays where you read watch time and completion. LeadJourney adds what happens after the tap and the revenue that follows.

Setup

Every video reporting revenue in about 21 minutes, none of them spent in TikTok

There is no TikTok account to connect and no channel group to build. The time goes on the script, your CRM and the links in your bio and on your videos.

  1. 1About 5 minutes

Add a single line of code

Paste the LeadJourney script into your site or your GTM container. From the first page view it reads referrers and UTMs server-side and reports TikTok as its own source, with the direct number corrected at the same time.

  2. 2About 10 minutes

    Connect your CRM

Sign in to HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Attio or Close and pick the pipelines in scope. From then on every TikTok lead is followed through its stages, and won revenue lands on the video that sent it.

  3. 3Same day

Tag your links and ask the question

Put a UTM on your bio link and each video link with the free UTM builder: utm_source=tiktok, utm_content naming the video. Each video is then a line with leads, pipeline and revenue on it.

Before LeadJourney, we had no reliable tracking concept for our five-figure ad spend. We were manually building spreadsheet and CRM reports, inaccurate and time-consuming. Within two days, everything was set up. For the first time, I know exactly what I pay per lead and which campaigns actually bring in the best-qualified prospects.

FAQ

What account owners ask before trusting the TikTok line

If yours is not here, our team answers in the chat within a few minutes.

Why does GA4 show my TikTok traffic as direct?

Because TikTok opens links in its own in-app browser, and that browser often sends your site no referrer at all. GA4 classifies by referrer, and no referrer is direct. When a referrer does arrive, from the desktop site for instance, GA4 files tiktok.com under Organic Social, one line for all of TikTok. Nothing is broken; GA4 has no video-level bucket to put the taps in, and the in-app browser hides most of them from it.

How does TikTok attribution work per video?

The source comes from the referrer when TikTok sends one, and from the UTM when it does not: the tracking script reads both server-side as the page loads and files the visit under TikTok. The video comes from the link: put a UTM on the bio link and on each video link with utm_content naming the video, and that name travels with the journey through the form, the CRM and the won deal. The traffic channel report then shows TikTok as a source and each video as a row under it, with visits, leads, pipeline and revenue.

How does TikTok bio link tracking work when there is only one bio link?

Tag it once with utm_source=tiktok and it reports as TikTok from every tap, whatever the in-app browser sends. To tell videos apart through the same bio link, change the utm_content when a video takes off, or point the bio at a page with one tagged link per video, and put the per video UTM on the link you place on the video itself where TikTok allows one. Every tap then lands on the right video.

Do I need UTMs on my TikTok links?

Yes, more than on any other channel, because the in-app browser drops the referrer so often. A tagged link arrives with utm_source=tiktok regardless of what the browser sent, so the tap is filed under TikTok instead of direct, and utm_content adds the video. The free UTM builder in our free tools has a preset for it, and a link only needs tagging once.

I use a link-in-bio tool. Does that break it?

No. Without UTMs the tool's domain would be the referrer and the visit would land under referral, which is what happens in GA4 today. With a UTM on each link inside the tool, TikTok and the video travel through the extra hop, the tracking script reads them on arrival, and the tool's domain never becomes the source.

What about TikTok ads?

This page is the organic side. Ad clicks land with the ad's own tracking parameters and UTMs rather than the bio link's, and LeadJourney sorts them by those, so a paid tap never lands on the organic TikTok line as long as your ads carry their own tags. Paid TikTok reporting, with spend and conversion events, is listed separately in the integrations directory.

A viewer taps today and becomes a customer in three months. Is it still attributed?

Yes. The journey has no window, so the deal is credited to the video that started it however long the cycle takes. GA4's lookback windows would have dropped the connection weeks earlier, which is one reason short video looks smaller in analytics than it is.

Is tracking TikTok referrals GDPR compliant?

Yes. LeadJourney reads the referrer and the UTM the browser already sends, on servers in the EU, first-party, so consent decisions are respected rather than worked around. Nothing is sent to TikTok, and the viewer is only identified when they fill in your form. A data processing agreement is part of every plan.

Do I need a developer?

No. The script is one line in your site or your GTM container, the CRM connection is an OAuth sign in, and the UTMs are a change to the links you already place in your bio and on your videos. Most accounts are live in about 21 minutes, and our team will do the setup with you on a call if you prefer.

What does it cost?

TikTok tracking is part of the platform rather than a paid add on. Plans are priced on tracked events instead of seats, so your whole team, your creators and your agency can share one workspace, and every plan starts with a 14 day free trial without a credit card.
