Use case

The board asks what GEO returns. The answer is hiding in your direct traffic.

LeadJourney reports every AI engine as its own channel, so GEO shows up in leads, pipeline and revenue, the way paid already does.

  • Every AI engine, its own channel
  • Leads per page
  • 95%+ accuracy, first-party

Illustrative numbers, real mechanics: the tracking script names the engine on arrival, ties the lead to the page it landed on, and your CRM supplies the pipeline and revenue.

The problem

GEO produces traffic your analytics was never built to see

The citation happens inside the engine, where no tool can look. The click that follows arrives with nothing to classify it. And the tools sold for GEO count mentions, which is where the funnel starts, not where the budget decision is made.

Why GEO cannot prove itself today

Every tool stops before the revenue

  • GA4's channel definitions predate AI search, so a ChatGPT referral has no channel to land in and reads as direct.
  • Clicks out of AI apps often carry no referrer at all, and a visit without a referrer is direct by definition.
  • Many readers never click: they see you cited, then search your brand or type the URL later, and arrive as organic or direct.
  • Gemini clicks blend into Google organic, so even the AI traffic you do get is filed under classic SEO.
  • Citation checkers and rank trackers count mentions, not leads: they stop where the funnel starts.
  • So GEO competes for budget against paid channels that report revenue, armed with screenshots.

The same work with LeadJourney

Measured per engine and per page

  • ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok and DeepSeek report as their own channels, recognised on arrival.
  • Tracking runs server-side at 95%+ accuracy, so ad blockers and iOS do not thin the numbers.
  • Journeys are kept across sessions, so the lead who returns through brand search still credits the AI visit that started it.
  • Gemini is split out from Google organic, so AI SEO and classic SEO stop sharing one column.
  • Every AI lead is tied to the page it landed on, so you see which content the engines actually send people to.
  • Leads, pipeline and won revenue per engine and per page, in the same reports paid already uses.

The fix

GEO measured per engine and per page, defended in revenue

Two places, one answer. Day to day, the dashboard shows which engines cite you into leads and which pages earn it. When budget is decided, the GEO line carries the same revenue numbers as paid.

Steer the work in LeadJourney

The dashboard the content team runs on

  • Every AI engine as its own channel, next to paid and organic, with leads instead of sessions.
  • Every AI lead tied to its landing page, so the guides and comparisons that earn citations are visible.
  • Leads, pipeline and won revenue per engine and per page, so the next piece of content is a decision.
  • Open any lead and see the full journey, from the AI visit through every return to the closed deal.

Defend the budget with revenue

Where the GEO line item is decided

  • The engine and the landing page are written onto the CRM record, so sales sees where the lead really started.
  • Add your content spend as a channel cost, so GEO gets a cost per lead the way Meta and Google do.
  • A revenue number behind the GEO line, from CRM deals rather than citation counts.
  • Reports build themselves and arrive in Slack, email or WhatsApp before the budget meeting.

What changes

The questions you can answer once GEO reports like paid

Every one of these is a report in LeadJourney, not a data project. The engines are already citing someone in your market; the difference is knowing whether it is you, and what it is worth.

  • How many leads did AI engines send us last month, and from which pages?

  • Which pages do AI engines send visitors to, and which visits become leads?

  • Is our GEO work growing AI search leads month over month?

  • What is the revenue behind AI search compared to classic organic?

  • Which engine sends leads that actually close: ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini?

  • What does a lead from AI search cost once content spend is counted?

FAQ

What teams ask before measuring their GEO work

If yours is not here, our team answers in the chat within a few minutes.

How do I measure whether GEO actually works?

Measure it where the money is: in leads, pipeline and revenue rather than citations. LeadJourney reports every AI engine as its own channel and ties each AI lead to the page it landed on and to the deal your CRM eventually closes. Citation checkers tell you the engines mention you; this tells you what the mentions are worth.

Can I see which pages the AI engines send traffic to?

Yes. Every AI lead carries the page it landed on, so you see which guides, comparisons and product pages the engines actually cite into visits, and which of those visits become leads and pipeline. That is the feedback loop the content team steers by.

What about people who read the AI answer but never click through?

No tool can attribute a citation nobody clicked, and we will not pretend otherwise. What LeadJourney measures is every visit that does happen, server-side at 95%+ accuracy, and journeys are kept across sessions, so a reader who converts weeks later through brand search still credits the AI visit that started the journey.

Does Gemini traffic count as Google organic?

In most analytics setups, yes, because Gemini sits inside Google. LeadJourney splits Gemini out from Google organic and attributes it on its own, so your AI SEO results and your classic SEO results stop sharing one column.

Which AI engines are tracked?

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Grok and DeepSeek referrals are reported as their own sources instead of landing in direct. There is nothing to configure: the tracking script separates them on its own.

Can I put a cost on GEO to get a real ROI?

Yes. Custom channel costs exist for exactly this: channels without an ad account, like SEO, content or influencer work. Add what the GEO work costs and LeadJourney reports cost per lead and return for it the same way it does for Meta or Google.

Do I need to add parameters to my content for this?

No. UTM parameters and click IDs are captured automatically when they exist, and AI referrals are recognised without any tagging, so your URLs stay clean, which also matters for how the engines cite them.
