LeadJourney vs PostHog

Where the product view ends and the budget question starts

PostHog is built around the event a user fires in your product; LeadJourney around the campaign that paid for the user. The rows show where each model stops, in PostHog's own documentation.

PostHog compared with LeadJourney, row by row
Built forPostHogProduct and engineering teams: product analytics, web analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys, error tracking and a data warehouse on one platform.LeadJourneyWhoever owns the ad budget: lead generation first, B2B and B2C, SaaS and e-commerce, for advertisers, agencies and affiliates. No product analytics, no replay, no feature flags.
Collects dataPostHogA JavaScript SDK with autocapture in the browser. The managed reverse proxy is free on PostHog Cloud and, by PostHog's own account, typically recovers 10 to 30 percent of events otherwise lost to blockers.LeadJourneyFirst-party tracking on your own domain, server-side, 95%+ of conversions captured, plus static and dynamic call tracking numbers as an add-on.
Ad spendPostHogThe marketing analytics beta imports spend from eight platforms (Google, LinkedIn, Meta, Pinterest, TikTok, Reddit, Bing and Snapchat) and matches it to conversion goals on utm_campaign and utm_source.LeadJourneyMeta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads natively, fewer platforms than PostHog, each campaign's spend joined to the leads it created and to what they closed. Any other channel as a custom channel with its costs.
Attribution modelsPostHogFirst touch and last touch, read as person properties ($initial_utm_source against utm_source). A linear, position based or time decay model is a query you write.LeadJourneyEvery rule-based model on every plan, on the click stream and the CRM, switchable without re-tracking; custom models on Enterprise.
Keeping the chainPostHogPer its docs, last touch campaign properties are not backfilled and hold only in the same tab and domain; under the default setting anonymous events never reach a person; Safari, in-app browsers and a second device break it without identify().LeadJourneyClick IDs and the journey kept server-side for months, so the deal that closes in month four still credits the ad that started it.
CRM and pipelinePostHogHubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and others sync into the data warehouse as tables. Crediting a deal to a campaign is a SQL join you write and keep correct.LeadJourneyNative to HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Close, Attio, GoHighLevel, ActiveCampaign and Odoo: stages, deal values and closed revenue joined to the journey per lead, and the source written back onto the record.
Revenue back to the ad platformsPostHogMeta and LinkedIn conversion destinations; Google Ads is an experimental destination without official support. Destinations fire on events in the stream, so a CRM stage change has to become a PostHog event first.LeadJourneyConversions API sync to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads on every plan; stage changes and closed deals arrive as offline conversions with their value.
CallsPostHogNot a tracked conversion type. A call reaches PostHog only as an event your phone system sends in.LeadJourneyStatic numbers per campaign and dynamic number insertion per visitor as an add-on, CallRail or Podium if you already run one.
Organic and AI search sourcesPostHogReferrers such as chatgpt.com appear as referring domains in web analytics; grouping them into AI sources is a definition you set up.LeadJourneyGoogle, Bing, YouTube, LinkedIn and the AI engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Grok and DeepSeek) as distinct sources, out of the box.
Person or lead viewPostHogA deep person timeline: every event, the session replays and the flags a user saw. The best view there is of what somebody did in the product.LeadJourneyEvery named lead from the first ad click to the closed deal, with the CRM stage and the deal value on it.
ReportsPostHogTrends, funnels, retention, paths, the web analytics dashboard, notebooks and a SQL editor over everything in the warehouse.LeadJourneyChannel, campaign, landing page and conversion path reports built in, a custom report builder with no SQL, saved dashboards and scheduled reports.
AI, MCP and exportPostHogPostHog AI inside the app, an MCP server, batch exports and data pipelines to BigQuery, Redshift and other tools.LeadJourneyAtlas answers in plain language and its agents send reports to email, Slack or WhatsApp; MCP for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, API, Zapier, and the export to your own BigQuery dataset.
Data hostingPostHogPostHog Cloud in the US (Virginia) or the EU (Frankfurt), or self-hosted from the open source code. A HIPAA BAA comes with the Boost package.LeadJourneyFrankfurt, Germany, for every account. First-party tracking on your domain, Art. 28 GDPR DPA on request, two-factor authentication.
SetupPostHogAn SDK on the site and in the app, identify() calls placed early for attribution to hold, and SQL for anything joined to the CRM. An engineering project, which suits the team PostHog is built for.LeadJourneySelf-serve, live in 21 minutes with the reports filled, no developer; onboarding call with a tracking expert from Starter.
PricingPostHogPublic and usage based: 1M events free every month, then from $0.00005 per event; person profiles, warehouse rows and destinations priced on their own; Boost $250 and Scale $750 a month; no seat charges.LeadJourneyPublic tiers by marketing spend: from €129 a month, monthly or yearly, attribution included, after a 14-day free trial.

Credit where it is due

PostHog is the most complete product platform an engineering team can adopt, open source, with a free tier most companies never leave, and it keeps adding marketing features. Nobody should replace it to get attribution. The table is about the other question: which campaign paid for the customer, and what the CRM says that customer was worth.

What the invoice does not show

On the invoice alone PostHog wins for most marketing sites: a million events a month is free. Attribution in PostHog costs something else, the identify calls, the person profiles, the warehouse joins and the SQL that somebody has to write and keep correct. In LeadJourney that is the product, and the price is set by the spend it measures.

Why teams add it

Why teams running PostHog add LeadJourney for marketing

Three arguments come up on almost every call with a PostHog team. Each one is a set of concrete capabilities, not a slogan.

Priced on the deal, not the event

  • CRM revenue attribution

Closed revenue from your CRM matched to the campaign, ad and keyword that created it, so return on ad spend is measured on deals, not on lead counts.

  • Forms, calls and CRM stages as conversions

Every conversion type a lead gen business has, tracked out of the box, with the CRM stage as the signal that matters rather than a checkout event.

  • Offline conversion tracking

Calls, meetings and signed contracts connected back to the exact ad that generated them, and sent to the ad platforms as the conversion they should optimise on.

  • Call tracking as an add-on

Static numbers per campaign or dynamic number insertion per visitor, on every plan, billed per number plus usage, and CallRail or Podium if you already run one. Every call lands on the click that made the phone ring.

  • CRM enrichment

Attribution written back into the CRM, so every lead carries its real source, campaign and keyword where sales works.

Attribution without writing it

  • Multi-touch attribution, every model

First click, last click, linear, position based and the rest on every plan, switchable without re-tracking anything; custom models on Enterprise.

  • Reports ready on day one

Channel, campaign, landing page and conversion path reports, plus the lead overview, built in and filled the moment data arrives.

  • Custom report builder

Build any report from raw data, pick the metrics, dimensions and layout, then save it as a live dashboard. No SQL required.

  • Lead quality by channel

See which channels bring leads that qualify and close, not just the ones that fill the form.

  • The full journey of every lead

Every touchpoint from the first click to the closed deal on one timeline, with the CRM stage on it, for any single lead your sales team asks about.

Tracked and returned server-side

  • Server-side tracking, 95%+ accuracy

Conversions are recorded on your own domain and sent server to server, so ad blockers, iOS and declined consent lose far less of them. 95%+ of conversions captured.

  • Conversions API sync on every plan

Real conversions and revenue go back to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft server-side, so their algorithms optimise on deals that actually closed.

  • Organic and AI search as sources of their own

Google, Bing, YouTube, LinkedIn, email, referrals and the AI engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Grok and DeepSeek) attributed next to your ads at no extra cost.

  • 21 minute setup

From signup to live tracking in under 21 minutes, self-serve; an onboarding call with a tracking expert from Starter, and 14 days of setup support.

  • Ask Atlas, the AI marketing analyst

Atlas reads your campaign, lead and CRM data and answers questions in plain language; Atlas agents watch the data and send daily or weekly reports to email, Slack or WhatsApp.

Switching

From PostHog to LeadJourney in 21 minutes

Nothing to export by hand. Add the script, connect the accounts, and run both tools for a week or two until the numbers agree.

  1. 1About 5 minutes

    Add the LeadJourney script

Paste one snippet into your site or your GTM container, alongside PostHog, which keeps running for the product. It starts recording sessions, click IDs and form fills immediately, and nothing about your current setup changes.

  2. 2About 10 minutes

Connect your ad accounts and CRM

Sign in to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft Ads over OAuth, then connect the CRM where your deals live. Historic campaign data and spend are imported for you.

  3. 3About 6 minutes

Map your CRM stages to conversions

Choose which stages count as a qualified lead and which count as revenue. From then on every stage change flows back to the ad platforms, and you can switch PostHog off once both tools agree.

Before LeadJourney, we had no reliable tracking concept for our five-figure ad spend. We were manually building spreadsheet and CRM reports, inaccurate and time-consuming. Within two days, everything was set up. For the first time, I know exactly what I pay per lead and which campaigns actually bring in the best-qualified prospects.

FAQ

PostHog vs LeadJourney, your questions answered

The questions PostHog teams ask on our calls, answered the way we answer them there.

What is the actual difference between PostHog and LeadJourney?

PostHog is a product platform: product analytics, web analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys, error tracking and a data warehouse, built for the team that ships the product. LeadJourney is an attribution platform, built for whoever owns the ad budget: it tracks the website server-side on your own domain, imports spend from Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft, follows every form fill, call and order through the CRM stages to the closed deal, credits that revenue with every attribution model, and sends the closed deal back to the ad platforms. One answers what users do in the product, the other which campaign paid for them.

Do we have to replace PostHog to use LeadJourney?

No, and we would advise against it. PostHog keeps doing what it is best at, the product: funnels inside the app, replays, flags and experiments. LeadJourney runs next to it on the marketing site and the CRM. The two answer different questions and most teams on our calls end up running both, with PostHog owned by product and LeadJourney by marketing.

PostHog has marketing analytics now. Is that not the same thing?

It is the part closest to us, and it is a real step: an opt-in beta that imports spend from eight ad platforms and puts it next to conversion goals, matched on utm_campaign and utm_source. What it does not do yet is the rest of the chain. The conversion is a PostHog event or a warehouse table, not a CRM deal with a stage and a value; first and last touch are person properties, not a choice of models; and getting a closed deal back to Google as an offline conversion runs through a destination PostHog marks as experimental. If your conversion is a signup inside the product, marketing analytics may be enough. If it is a deal that sales closes weeks later, that is where LeadJourney starts.

Can PostHog attribute revenue from HubSpot or Salesforce?

It can hold the data: HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and others sync into the PostHog data warehouse as tables, and you can query them with SQL next to your events. Attributing a deal is then a query you write: match the CRM contact to a PostHog person, pick the campaign property you trust, handle deals with several contacts and people who were never identified, and keep all of it correct as the CRM changes. LeadJourney does that join natively for HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Close, Attio, GoHighLevel, ActiveCampaign and Odoo, per lead and with every model, and writes the source back onto the record.

Can PostHog send conversions back to Google, Meta and LinkedIn?

Partly. PostHog has Meta and LinkedIn conversion destinations, and a Google Ads offline conversion destination it calls experimental and does not officially support. All of them fire on events in PostHog's live stream, using the person as known at that moment, so a stage change in your CRM has to be turned into a PostHog event before it can go anywhere. LeadJourney reads the stage change from the CRM and sends it to Meta, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft as an offline conversion with its value, on every plan.

How does the pricing compare?

Both publish their prices. PostHog is usage based per product: a million events a month are free, then from $0.00005 per event, with person profiles, warehouse rows and destinations priced separately and optional packages at $250 or $750 a month. LeadJourney prices by marketing spend, from €129 a month, with tracking, attribution, CRM sync and the Conversions API included, after a 14-day trial without a card. For many marketing sites PostHog's invoice is lower; the cost of attribution in PostHog is the engineering time to build and maintain it.

Where is the data hosted, and is it GDPR compliant?

Both can keep your data in Frankfurt. PostHog Cloud offers an EU region in Frankfurt next to the US one, and PostHog can also be self-hosted. LeadJourney hosts every account in Frankfurt, tracks first-party on your own domain and signs an Art. 28 DPA on request. Hosting is not the difference between the two; what each one measures is.
