Customer journey, first click to closed deal

LMLena MarshCorvid AnalyticsClosed won6 touchpoints over 58 days

Diagram: the journey of one buyer, Lena Marsh of Corvid Analytics, drawn left to right on one beam. Day 1, a click on a LinkedIn thought leadership ad on mobile. Day 6, a referral click from a G2 category page. Day 15, a return visit from a ChatGPT answer. Day 22, a branded Google Ads click to the pricing page, then the CRM milestone: a demo booked through the form and an opportunity opened in HubSpot. Day 58, the deal closed won at 48,000 euros of annual revenue and written back to HubSpot. Under it the same journey read by three attribution models: last click credits Google Ads Brand, first click credits LinkedIn Ads, and LeadJourney's multi-touch models credit all four channels.

What changes

The budget questions last click cannot answer, answered per deal

Six questions every B2B SaaS marketing team gets asked, and what the journey behind each deal says instead.

  • Which channel actually creates pipeline?

The channel that opened the deal, credited

Every deal carries its first touch, its middle touches and its last, so LinkedIn is credited for the deal it opened even when brand search closed it.

  • Why is 40% of our pipeline marked Direct?

    Direct gets a name

Sessions are stitched to one person across devices and weeks, so the signup on a laptop still knows about the ad clicked on a phone. 95%+ of touches captured, server-side and first-party.

  • Does content pay back, or is it just traffic?

    Content's place inside the deal

Organic and blog visits appear where they happen in the journey, with the ARR they helped close next to them, instead of as sessions nobody can tie to revenue.

  • Is anyone finding us through ChatGPT?

AI search as a channel of its own

Visitors from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude are recorded as their own source and followed to the deal, not folded into Direct.

  • Our sales cycle is 90 days. Ads report seven.

Journeys as long as the sales cycle

Click IDs and touchpoints are kept for months rather than the days a browser cookie survives, so a deal that closes next quarter still credits the campaign that started it.

  • Where do we cut, and where do we double down?

Budget by closed ARR per channel

Spend per channel next to the pipeline and ARR it started or assisted, so the next budget round moves money toward what signs customers instead of what produces cheap signups.

The report

Which channels opened the deals we closed this quarter?

3 channels opened 13 of the 14 deals closed this quarter, and none of them is the one that closed most of them:

LinkedIn Ads
First touch on 6 deals, €212k ARR. Closed on average 61 days later, after a branded search.
Google organic
First touch on 4 deals, €118k ARR. Three of them started on the pricing guide.
ChatGPT and Perplexity
First touch on 3 deals, €71k ARR, that HubSpot had filed under Direct.

Walk me through Corvid Analytics' journey, first click to closed won.

Corvid Analytics took 6 touches over 58 days from the first click to the closed deal in HubSpot:

Day 1
Clicked a LinkedIn thought leadership ad on mobile, in the United States.
Day 6 to 15
Compared you on a G2 category page, then came back from a ChatGPT answer.
Day 22 to 58
Branded search to the pricing page, demo booked the same day, opportunity in HubSpot. Closed won on an annual plan at €48,000.

Want the same view for every deal LinkedIn opened?

Ask anything about one deal

How much of our pipeline is still Direct, and what was it really?

11% of pipeline is unattributed this quarter, down from 40% before the journeys were stitched:

Resolved to AI search
€96k of pipeline arrived from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini answers. The CRM had all of it as Direct.
Resolved to return visits
€154k came back weeks after a LinkedIn or Google click, on another device, and is now on that first click.
Still Direct
€38k: typed URLs and pasted links with no earlier session on record. That is the honest remainder.

Build a report: pipeline and closed ARR by first touch channel, last 90 days, and save it to my dashboard.

Done. The first touch report is on your dashboard, last 90 days, spend next to what it opened:

LinkedIn Ads
€18.4k spend, €412k pipeline opened, €212k closed ARR.
Google Ads
€9.2k spend, €188k pipeline opened, €96k closed ARR. Mostly brand.
Organic and AI search
No spend, €142k pipeline opened, €71k closed ARR.

Want the last touch read beside it, so both sit on one dashboard?

Ask it to build or change a report

Where should next quarter's budget move?

Reading last quarter's journeys, 3 things stand out before the budget review:

LinkedIn opens, rarely closes
First touch on 6 of 14 deals, last touch on none. Judged on last click ROAS it looks like a cut. It is the pipeline.
Brand search closes what it did not start
Last touch on 9 of 14 deals, first touch on 1. Its return depends on the channels above it.
G2 sits in 5 of 14 journeys
At no media cost. The review profile is doing more than the spend on it suggests.

FAQ

What SaaS marketing teams ask before they book

If yours is not here, ask it on the call. That is what the 30 minutes are for.

We run HubSpot, Salesforce or Attio. Does this replace it?

No. LeadJourney records the journey on your own domain and writes it onto the contact and the deal in HubSpot, Salesforce, Attio, Pipedrive or Close, so the CRM stays the system of record and finally knows where each deal came from.

Our buying cycle runs months and involves several people. Does the journey survive that?

Yes. Touchpoints and click IDs are kept for months, sessions are stitched per person across devices once they identify, and a deal's journey is read from the contact that closed it. What LeadJourney does not do is guess at colleagues who never identified themselves.

We are product-led. Does it work with self-serve trials?

Yes. A trial signup is a conversion like a demo request, and the paid plan in your CRM or in Stripe is the revenue event, so a self-serve journey ends on the plan the way a sales-led one ends on the deal. Both sit in the same reports.

We have GA4 and HubSpot attribution already. What is different?

GA4 counts sessions, stops at the conversion and loses the journey to consent banners and iOS. HubSpot's revenue attribution needs Marketing Hub Enterprise and works from the sessions its own cookie recorded. LeadJourney records first-party on your domain, keeps the person across sessions and devices, and reports revenue from the CRM. Most teams keep GA4 for site behaviour.

What happens on the demo?

30 minutes with a tracking specialist. We walk through the journey view on live demo data, then map the setup for your stack: which ad accounts, which CRM and which conversion events, so you know what it takes before you start the trial.
